Hey Guys,

Well, Since I got my new radiator cap to replace the worn out and probably original 16 year old one, the red coolant has been leaking out of the top of the coolant level sensor leaving a lovely red mess all over the top of the tank which drys up soon after going for a drive. I'm convinced its caused by the full sealing ability of the new cap compared to the old one so pressure builds up causing fluid to ease its way up the sensor.

Its no big deal, but makes an unsightly mess in my other wise immaculate engine bay.

So my question is, other than a replacement are there any ways to fix it and stop the leaks? With say a sealant or something?

Looking through some other peoples engine pay pictures Ive also noticed this problem so obviously its rather common.

Please post a link if there are any other threads on this issue that could help me out!

Cheers guys.

People have tried to fix it without success.

There is a rubber gasket, replacing that might help, but it's unlikely.

Normally the tank develops fine cracks around the metal thread allowing the fluid to bypass the gasket and leak out.

New tank is the only sure fix. :-(

Ah I see. I might do a bit of experimenting to fix it. But if worse comes to worse Ill replace my tank when the time calls for it.

Interestingly it had to be done on the soarer of mine so it was expected in a way for the celsior to also require it as well. Its just one of those things I guess :-)

Mine was doing the same thing so we replaced the sensor with a brass plug which was custom made at a pluming store.

The sensor was stuffed so it didn't matter.
The plug cost $25 to make.

Hmmm thats not a bad idea considering its not really an important part as I regularly check fluid levels.

Mike, might I sugest that you try the "O" ring fix before indulging in further expenditure.

I had the exact same problem with the Soarer about 2 months ago, and it has worked perfectly for me..............NO more leaks AT ALL!.

Hmm, Ill keep that in mind. I just put some thread tape around the tread and sprayed the O ring with silicone spray.

Perhaps this could stop the leaking, Ill see how it goes after a few drives :-)

Forgot to mention that my sensor had split inside which allowed the coolant to flow up the middle of the sensor.
Also the new brass one we got also needed an "O" ring.
