Guys, I thought while I was on the fuel line topic (91 V8) at the moment with the other thread, I would just find out about cleaning injectors/ carburetors etc as well (Trust me guys, as you would know from my posts I am a complete mechanic illeterate)
I was wondering if the 'on the shelf' injector cleaners actually work or just a complete waste of money/time? Anyone of them actually found to work for anybody? Is ultrasonic cleaning the only REAL way about it? Is it too tough to get them off yourself to send them off to clean? Any recommendable place in Adelaide where they would do this?
I did a search on carburetor cleaning, couldnt find much. Is it possible to do by yourself at all or best left with the mechanic?
I did a search on good mechanics in SA- came up with Frank Bria, Tilbrooks, Aspec performance and Manta Racing. Any others from experience?

As there is no carburettor, clean the throttle body instead. Keep good fuel in it, and there probably won't be any problems. It's more of an issue with the TT's being modded for high performance.

I doubt it would be an injector related issue if it's that bad as the ECU will vary the amount of fuel you're using by checking the Air Fuel Ratio from the O2 sensor. The air flow meter or the O2 sensors are more likely the cause in my opinion. You might try swapping in someone elses AFM or get a multimeter onto the O2 sensor signals to check that they fluctuate from roughly 0 to 1 V while driving at mild throttle. You might want to check with a mechanic.
I probably wouldn't recommend installing injectors yourself unless you've had some experience as this is a great way to start an engine fire. Removing injectors is less of an issue I suppose and it shouldn't be too hard but there's still fuel floating around. Be careful that you don't siphon the entire contents of your fuel tank out through your fuel hose.

LOL
Well those additives seem to do an OK job. I usually run one through a tank every month or so. Besides making the car a fair bit louder don't know if they do anything. Could be worth a shot. Just chuck the whole thing in and see how you go. Correct dosage is for pussies.

The one I use you can get from super cheap auto. It's light blue. Treats some ungodly amount of fuel. But I throw one in then fill up. Seems to do what ever it does OK.
