Hello Sir V8 Soarer owner's.

Well im selling my Twin Turbo soarer, and i figgure hey, i can legally drive a V8 Soarer right? So its time to get a V8.

Ive used search, and read up alot but now im after more clarified answers on fuel economy.

Coming over from a Twin Turbo, economy was bad. I could burn a litre in a few kilometres if i guned it hard. Average was 7.5km/litre driving moderate (not hard not soft).

So what do you V8 guys get.
1. When you gun it
2. When you drive slow
3. Average cruising.
4. Full 75l tank (i think its 75l) going to work / places ect (not exceeding 5k revs).

I must stipulate, comments like 'you shouldnt buy a soarer if your worried about economy' are not neccesary.

Thanks guys in advance for your help}, *no e-thugs please*

Hi Chris,
I have a V8 limited soarer and have got 10.2 km per litre at 108 on cruise on the highway, but have used 16 litres for 85 kms in town. I travelled from singleton to adelaide and back and travelled 3600 km at 11.72 per litre with. I always run high octane fuel. They are ok if you keep your foot up .Hope that helps you. Cheers, Phil

From the many, many threads on fuel efficiency I've read over the last couple of years, V8's potentially use more fuel than the TT, if you drive your TT off boost most of the time, however in practice the V8s tend to use less, depending on how much you like pushing the pedal down on your TT.

Either way, there isn't a HUGE amount of difference between them.

The week before last I drove from Canberra down Brown Mountain to the coast, south and west to Melbourne. A day and a half of small trips in Melbourne then back again turning left at Cann River up through Bombala and home to Canberra. Total trip 1885km. Total fuel 214.9 litres, mostly of 98 but including 30 litres of 95, at an average of 11.4 litres/100km.

Without seriously exceeding speed limits I tend to cruise quickly, particularly up mountains, and readily overtake using lower gears and a suitable boot full of throttle.

Average fuel cost, incidentally, was $1.30/litre.

[Edited to correct for known speedo error of 8%]

Yep. I own both.. I can get roughly 450KMs on average out of my TT. V8 does about 500KMs on average, so not a whole lot of difference there.

I say keep the TT. It's more fun. The V8 on the other hand is definitely the way to go if you want a cruiser.

On the highway my 2JZ w/big single turbo will average 9.6L/100km. Around town I usually get 13L/100km.

Best I've ever managed is ~806km on a tank with about 2 litres left in it.

Not true - there are two tank sizes, 70 litre and 78 litre. JZZ31's all use the 70 litre tank, and I think some TT models do too.

i find the TT quiet good with petrol, compared with other cars.

i get about 450km on average with gunning it, and i run it with 18psi constant.
and they are alot more fun.

FFS!!! The problem is there are 189 threads on "Fuel economy" if you do a search. It's the same boring crap said over and over again. At the end of the day none of it matters because these cars are NOT economical - So everyone get over it and start talking performance rather than chatting like a bunch of girls over an afternoon cup of tea FFS!!!!

Now go P-off the lot of you and start reading the 189 threads already here on the topic. You should have taken Peter's advice in the first place!!

Here's the first lot to get you tight assed lipstick wearing penny pinching misers busy...you can do the search yourselves for the rest I really can't be bothered....!!!

(I'm off to take my medication so there better not be any more F'en fuel economy follow-up posts by the time I get back!!!)

Did we twist your arm and make you read this and the other 189 threads on fuel?

If you want performance and are not worried about fuel please buy a Bugatti Veyron.

For the rest of us who live in a world that is dictated by monetary constraints, please let us enjoy our balance of performance/economy/style that the soarer gives.

Please Gregg I'm not trying to get at you but Chris requested

Joshua I have some advice for you.

If you stop sniffing petrol you might:

1. Have more fuel to put in your car so that your desire to discuss fuel economy will be much less
2. Have the ability to use the forum search feature
3. Understand the content of the first 5 Fuel economy threads instead of getting to thread 189 and still not having a clue (If you are thinking this is a paradox to point 2 then see point 6)
4. Come to a realisation that V8's and Twin Turbo 6's have nothing to do with the concept of fuel economy on any level (Even the NA 6 is marginal)
5. Appreciate that reading Fuel Economy tripe for Soarers is as interesting as watching turds dry
6. And finally, and MOST IMPORTANTLY you may gain back A SENSE OF HUMOUR FFS !!!!

"Please Josh I'm not trying to get at you but AS PETER REQUESTED"

Oh - and one more thing while I'm on a roll... There is a good reason that I'm up at 2am in morning...

I'm working my arse off to pay the fuel bills for my gas guzzling supercharged V8 Soarer. Hell even when it wasn't supercharged I could watch the litres fall every 100 meters!!!

My last word on the subject (Much to your joy no doubt) is that if I had to contribute to this thread purely on topic I would simply sum up the findings from the prior 189 threads added with my own personal experience which is:

1. My previous TT soarer sucked major ass when it came to fuel economy
2. The V8 impacted the world oil crude prices on the first turn of the ignition.

Conclusion:
Fuel economy discussions are reserved for 4 cylinder NA vehicles and motorbikes. Amen and Goodnight.

If you want to continue your ladies tea party be my guest!!!
