Hi All, bit of a head scratcher, i installed a Apexi pod in lieu of the std airbox, Car sounds great and for a few days it ran excellent. Now the exaust is black and the car is running is really really rich. Fuel consumption has jumped somewhat and the power has dropped. Now what confuses me is that while the car is running cold it drives like before i.e. feels like there is 50hp more but when it warms up it feels like its lost a lot more. Any ideas where i should look.

I take it that the pod filter is just breathing from the engine bay ? Problem is that the Apexi filter will flow better and cos it's an Apexi it will still filter as well as a standard unit , BUT it is now breathing in hot underbonnet air which is bad !! Even running a shield is not good enough , it needs to breathe outside air . When your car is cold so is the air under the bonnet = going good , when the engine has warmed up the air under there is 80 degrees plus and now that's what your engine is breathing = not so good !!

So a shield and a cold air duct should help? I could possibly route the filter outside the engine bay. Thank you Rich

Exactly right Rich, You should be able to use a heat sheild to block engine heat then run an air duct from under the headlight to suck in the cool air. Also look into getting an SAFC. Just to lean out the air/fuel mixture, it has had some great improvements to some V8's. Some getting up to 40rwhp with a good tune.

Check your airflow meter is plugged in properly. Sounds like the car is in limp mode, running on the TPS.

A/F meter is plugged in that im sure of I picked up a shield and some tubing on my way home. Chucked it in will see if it makes a difference. Monday the new bar goes on so Ill route the filter in behind the bar. Jason, SAFC makes a difference does it, Id love to lean the car out further. Whos is good to tune this here in SA or VIC in a few weeks ( im moving) Just had a look on ebay SAFC seems model specific or am i wrong?

SAFC can be tuned on most injected cars, soarers are one of them. My own V8 made an extra 41rwhp when tuned. Great upgrade for little money.

Well the shield and ducted hose from front of car to filter made a very very big difference. Ill definetley be rerouting the filter out to behind the front bar and gettig a SAFC. Cheers all. Once again SC rocks the house.

Yeah, it surprised me too Damian. I will try and find someone with a scanner. Before the tune it pulled 190rwhp, then with the tune from Ant at Xspeed it managed 231rwhp. Quite a good result for a couple of hundred bucks. Try and get the pics up soon.
