Hey guys Im getting an aftermarket exhaust for my V8 but unfortunately due to cashflow its going to be a while. Whats the best way of getting a bit more V8 sound from the stock exhaust? Im not after more power right now but I also dont want to lose any Just want a bit more roar when I boot it.Does removing the middle mufflers do it? Thanks in advance

Elliot, I think you would be better off removing the rears first and see if you like it. Then get onto the middle ones. It will be plenty loud then.

Apparently i dont need the cat cos the car is so old. Going to get them removed this afternoon and play around with the middle and end mufflers

Hi, I have removed the rears on my V8 soarer and has made it sound good with slight improvement on performance. Definitely gave a sweeter note. No longer sounds like a grandpa car lol. Easy on the ears at 110 kph on the highway but sounds good from outside and inside when putting the pedal down. Has a flange joint near diff and is very easy to replace mufflers if required too. Cheers, Phil

Yeah, I had the rear mufflers removed before i put the full exhaust on. Gives it a decent sound.

Just had someone take off the centre resonator and 2 middle mufflers and replace with stainless pipe. Sounds so much better. Not loud at all but when you put your foot down it roars like a V8 should. Pick up is quicker and the auto box doesnt change from 1st for longer All in all £100 very well spent

when you guys took the rears off, did you have really bad economy for a day till the ECU sorted itself out?

Sean, have you just taken the rear two mufflers of your Soarer? Ive done this on 3 1UZ powered cars and never had an issue with fuel economy. All I got was a bit of a droney V8 sound quieted by the rest of the exhaust. My guess is you must have some kind of problem with the ECU... perhaps the capacitors inside are stuffed? Not quire sure but you shouldn't have bad fuel ecconomy at all.

umm, to be honest I never really check my fuel economy. When someone asks how much fuel it uses, the answer is just 'a lot'. Driving style probably doesn't help.

Hehe I usually say who cares. I just put the gas in and enjoy it. I mean why own a V8 or turbo and be passionate about it in the first place if your going to stress over how much petrol it uses.... If that's the case those sort of people should buy a Honda Logo!!

Mike, yeah i removed the rears and replaced with 2.25 pipe and quad tips. Looks and sounds alot better. Had poor fuel economy for about 50-100 Kms but i reset the ECU and now is better than before. Getting around 11kms to the litre on the highway so i'm pretty happy now. Now i want to hear it with the middles removed My mechanic told me i don't have a resonator but three cats??

New cats were supposed to be fitted for compliance. Some places just added a 3rd cat instead of replacing the 2 original ones. Less labour cost and less cat cost.

Its all very well just fiddling with the factory system, but the whole thing is just junk.... it is quite awesome if you like being a stealth V8 but not my cup of tea what so ever! Mine rattles up near the cats like a hissing snake, the cats them selves kill a few KW's, those Y joins in and out of the center resonator..... YUCK! and the muddle mufflers the pipe leading in and out is so small its ridiculous.... it must be just strangling the engine in those parts! At least go from the cats with a full new system, as if you do any less I think your just wasting your time. If you don't get rid of the center res or Cat, removing the Y joins it will always have the horrible raspy note.

Though the original cats are actually quite good apparently, so if you aren't getting headers, get the pipe cut after the original cats, before the new centre one and start from there.

Yeah, like what you did on your soarer and I in turn did with a cat back dual system is a good bang for dollar modification. Around $800 can see it done well, its just the extra 700 odd for headers that bumps the price up and makes it a bit scary. Hows your 2.5" dual system been going lately Peter? The lukeys still in top shape still? |
