I was wondering if anyone has had their v8 ping on them, and what they have done to solve the problem,(by the way my cars a aus delivered 1990 ls400 if that makes a difference) yes i am deffinate its pinging by the way, my mechanics ran a scan tool on it, taken it for a drive and has no clue, So far its had injectors chemically cleaned, new plugs, leads and tps,egr and replaced a split intake pipe so does anyone have any ideas? Sorry if this is posted twice because the first time i posted it i couldnt find it... Thanx in advance

Cam angle Sensors could do it easily.
Air flow meter? Ecu? Fuel Pump Ecu?
Some more ideas... Try bridging the fuel Pump Bypass in the diagnostics port in the engine bay. If its not running enough fuel it will lean out, but im leaning towards cam sensors.

Yeah its deffinatly not fuel quality i used to only run 98 but mostly now95 as this made no difference ill look into the cam angle sensor and fuel ecus.. whats the cam angle sensor worth

I've been told that if one cam is out one tooth it will throw a code. Haven't verified this for myself though. But unlikely to cause pinging unless it occured straight after a timing belt change.
Celsiors/LS400's dont run fuel pump ecu, they just have the fuel pump resistor.
AFM is a possibility, ecu seems very unlikely.
What is the idle at? Check again for any splits in the intank pipe between the AFM and the throttle body.
Are you running a pod filter or the stock airbox ?

OK sorry i didnt elaborate more on the subject as i didnt have much time when i posted.. Afm is connected, could be suspect but i am going to try that last due to the price of these.. The car is not throwing any codes its been run on scan tools as far as the ecu is concerned everythings fine.. The car only pings under load, 1200-1800 rpm. And i have stock airbox with k&n but the was put in after the pinging started and had very minimal oil on it so thats not it.. I dont think its the temp sensors as his was pinging continuously and mines not.. Anyone got a pic of the cam angle sensors and a price as i got no idea what they look like

OK yesterday i changed my k&n in box filter back to the factory one for cleaning and the pinging was much less and less often so would that lead you to think its getting oil on the afm from the k&n? or something else
