Hi guys. My cat converter warning light now appears even before I start driving. Because the cat is not hot at this time but the light is on I am hoping this is just a wiring problem. I checked out the car twice before I bought it and both times there was now warning sign but then I got the seller (dealer/mechanic) to replace a few parts ie timing belt, fuel filter, water pump etc and when I picked it up I first noticed it. If it is a wiring problem can some one please advise me as to where this loose wire may be located. Any help would be very much appreciated

Something I would recommend, having had this problem before is to have your alternator checked out.

What happened with mine is that the alternator, whilst still working to the point that the computer didn't figure out it was broken, was in fact not producing enough charge.

From the searching I did when I had this problem, because I didn't know what caused it either, I found that the alternator could be the cause, few days later i knew for sure as my EMV screen went black.

But it could also be something else, I'm not sure. But that's what caused it with mine.

Yes I think it may be something similar as my EMV will show up black with Jap writing saying the voltage is low after only a few minutes with the CD on but car off. Did you get it fixed?

Fixed mine ages ago, generally the power stearing pump (or hoses) leak onto the alternator and cause it to chew some parts out or burn out.

I've been thru 2 alternators so far, should probably look at the power stear when i get a chance

Genuine Toyota ones are fairly pricey, first replacement I had my friend who is an autoelec rip the guts out and put a landcruiser alternator in the same housing, sneaky sneaky.

Recently I had a rather smokey display from the alternator and because of it being Christmas i was unable to get it repaired, went down to the wreckers and picked up a 2nd hand alternator for $100 and slapped it on.

It's a fairly easy thing for an auto elec to test and see if it isn't functioning correctly, they just check the voltage. Get it checked out and you'll know. Lots better then parking at the supermarket or shopping centre and finding out your car doesn't start....

Hope I've been helpful
