Hey everyone,

New owner to a 1990 Celly

And as it turns out, well iv got the common problem everyone seems to have had at least once. My alternator is playing up.

When i first baught the car, it kept running out of charge and stalling. So we figured dead battery. I went and baught a brand new one which was fine for a few days, Low and behold, it died again.

Iv put up with it for a few days hoping the problem will go away, and its caused me to get stranded 3 times, and im hoping it starts this afternoon so i can get home from work.

Now i have to charge the battery every night just to get to and from work every next day.

When the car is running i get the warning lights : Oil/battery/radiator/cat converter.
Also my lights on my dash and my headlight seems to die out.

BUT sometimes the lights dont come on, and they dont fade, which leads me to think the alternator is working??? But this doesnt last long.

Iv done my searches and its led me to believe either the ps pump bearing has worn and is leaking some fluid on to the alt, or the alt had just decided to die.

I need to know the best thing to do, Get a new one, get a 2nd handy, or get mine rebuilt.

If im going to replace it, does anyone know the part number for a 1990 V8 alternator?

Thanks in advance guys, any help is much appriciated.

Just give a auto elec. a call tell them you have a Celsior and need a reconditioned alternater, they will do a check with what is needed, then they will take yours off and replace the parts inside, pretty easy. Or give toyota a call with your Vin number and they will give you a price of a new unit and the part number.

Alternator is one of the most common issue with any older car, atleast its not life threatening

A new aftermarket alt will set you back a bit over $400 plus fitting if you cant do it yourself.

Matt, I think you should take Richs' deal. A great price for new.
I have taken mine out and replaced it within 45 minutes. So the work is no big deal.

with the celsior what alternators are
drop in/inter-changeable

i see ALOT of the "rebuilt" ones on ebay but not sure if they would fit? they are u.s.a stores, anyone had any experiences with these, as they range from only 80 to 100$.

ls400,sc400? does lhd or rhd matter? or are they all inter-changable.

and usually how much it cost for the alternator to be rebuilt. cheers, as i too have a celsior where the alternator is stuffed

also while I'm at it, what to do with your power-steering pump, how much they are they to rebuild? or new? or 2nd hand?

cheers.

The alternator on a V8 1991 UZZ32 = 27 06 0-50050.
10 02 11-6400.
This number is straight off the Toyota Denso Tag.
There is no indication of amperage.
The alternator on the V8 with hydraulic suspension is a bitch to remove due to the large hydraulic pump sitting underneath it.
The best of British.

Bout 40 mins or certainly under an hour .

Oh yes, I missed that post.

I imagine it would be a challenge on a 32 though compared to the normal 1UZ deal.
