I am planning on swapping my engine over soon to a fresher unit and have come accross a VVTi V8. Apart from the obvious that it has VVTi what are the specs for this engine?? does it make more power and is it a direct swap into the 91 engine bay??

| Do you know what kind of car the motors coming out of? If it's a 1998 Lexus LS400, here is the specs: Power: 216 kW , 290 HP @ 6,000 rpm; 300 ft lb , 407 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. Not too sure if it fits into a soarer engine bay. Here is a picture of the engine

I am pretty sure the late Mark Paddick imported one of these and found it would not fit. Neil may be better informed.

1UZ David. Yes, I left the 5 speed auto in Peter. I had the install done for him Xmas 2006. ECU arrived late, so I have a little more to complete latter this year / next year. ( And a bit of wiring to complete )

Not driven it then? I recall reading somewhere that the 5 speed box didn't bring out the best in the engine.

Not a direct fit. You will NOT find one that is a direct fit. 5 Speed Auto may be good for just driving around town, defiantly NOT for trying to go Track Side with I will more than likely make it a Manual

The Lexus SC400 in the U.S. was given the VTTi V8 in 1998. According to Brian Long in his book "Lexus" "In US trim, the four litre BEAMS engine produced a healthy 290bhp at 6000rpm, and 300lbft of torque at 4000rpm. The new 10.5:1 compression ratio and the addition of VVT-i not only improved performance throughout the rev range, but also endowed the V8 with better fuel consumption figures and reduced exhaust emissions. The 1UZ-FE power unit was linked to the new five speed A650E electronically-controlled automatic transmission. Combined with the ETCS electronic throttle control system, it gave smoother shifts and enhanced both acceleration and economy. The gearshift now sat in a new gated selector, and a switch was provided to select a so-called 'Snow' mode. When activated, the ETCS opened the throttle very gently to aid traction. Although it had gained 23kg, the SC400 now had 290bhp on tap and. linked to the new A650E five speed automatic transmission (final drive ratio 3.27:1), was capable of covering 0-60mph in just 6.3 seconds, powering through the quarter mile marker 8.4 seconds later. Top speed was electronically limited to 149mph."

Hi Daniel, if your interested!!! The classic SC 300 & 400 sport coupes received an improved performance for the 1998 model. This performance came in the mask of the addition of Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) in both six and eight-cylinder engines and a five-speed automatic transmission in the SC400. I have, if your interested a brand new USA SC400 ECU, which fits US SC400's, years 12/1997 - 1998 - 2000 (Part number 8966124533, which was superceded by part number 8966124534).
