I got a hilux at work that has a 1uzfe in it, the engine has been sitting for at least 12 months without running. The problem i have is it is lacking power and strugles to idle.
It has spark on all 8cylinders and runs pretty smooth so don't suspect missfire.
it improves with the AFM unpluged, or with the return line crimped. So therefore i concluded it's running lean. Fuel pressure is good.

I suspect blocked injectors from stale fuel, but if anyone else has a suggestion please let me know.

i have a similar problem with my soarer which was parked up for almost 3 years.

if it struggles to idle it must be to do with the IAC valve or the ECU. I bought a new IAC for mine and it started idling high (my old one was jammed), i checked everything else only thing left to check is the ECU. It coukd also be a possibility my new IAC is damaged, i cant be sure unless i check a new ECU.

But yours definately sounds like a jammed IAC valve. Its the black round thing in front middle of the engine behind the spark plug leads. take it off, open it up, u only need a screw driver and clean it very easy. It should spin quite easily, if not its jammed just forced it and spin it a few times should by hand should sort it out. probably gonna have abita rust on it.

If your IAC is OK then check your ecu.

The IAC will have nothing to do with lack of power whilst driving, it only controls the idle.

The motor should go rich when the AFM is unplugged, if it doesn't then it's possibly injectors as you say.

Well according to some peoples i spoke to as you accelerate the IAC should open and close to control amount of air. Im not sure about this i asked this question earlier but didnt get an answer. If the IAC does open/close as you rev then it would explain lack of power also. But it doesnt than like mr wotsit said it could be your ecu. However i would recommend checking your IAC first before messing about with an ECU. My car had high idle and misfire. People said to me your ECU your ECU, but i fixed my old IAC which was slightly diffrent (only got jammed - spun him around abit, bobs your uncle and fannies your aunt) and it idles OK.

I did get an improvement in power also not just the idle. When i fix my knock sensor Ill know for certain if the powers back to normal. If my power doesnt return to normal after that, then ill check my ECU. Also run a diagnostics, very easy, these engines have failsafe operation if it detects any faults, (ie fix temp at 80 degrees if coolant sensor is fubucked).

If i run diagnostics it detects my knock sensor, if i let it run in fail safe mode i drives better at low revs but in high revs. So i deleted the error code (remove EFI fuse) and let it run thinking everythings didly, i lose power at low revs but its alrite when i floor it.
