Hey all currently have a terrible whine in my power steering. Hoping someone out there can give me a few answers. With my limited mechanical skills, I think it maybe air in the system due to some cracks I found in the return hose on the fluid reservoir. Questions:
Is this a high pressure hose? If not, can I get a generic replacement from REPCO?
Currently doing a search but can only find articles retailed to every other hose save for this one

Hey Dave. It's only under load. Say if you'd jack the car up it'll turn without 'whine' until it hits lock position. Dry steering while stationary creates a terrible whine.
I wish it was all the time or at a certain rev...that would mean I just tighten the serpentine belt. (Sadly I don't think I'll get off so cheaply)
Only happens when turning the steering wheel yes mate. And the flush today hasn't made it any better or worse. (Made me $50 poorer : p and a good deal annoyed at not fixing the problem though)

hmmmm looks like its the pump , but they say a non gen high pressure hose can cause a whine. also the vac pipe that goes to the bottom of the pump clamp it so it gets no vacuum see if it changes the whine.

Hey yeah, 'tis the pump, no not genuine hoses (read about that but have real difficulty believing that that could cause a whine). Been told it could be the flow control valve
...ah after spending all that I think I'll just put up with it lol!
