Air in the power steering system can causes noises. Check the fluid level.

Mate had the same problem. Most likely your power steering pump has died, its common for Soarers. You can either get it reconditioned mate, or otherwise get a new pump.
Also this will help you http://www.planetsoarer.com/Power%20steering%20pump.htm

On the V8, when the P/S pump leaks, it leaks into the alternator causing it to need an overhaul.

So fix it as a matter of financial urgency.

For that price I hope he's replacing the power steering pump and not just reconditioning it.

Unless of course he is replacing the hoses as well.

Sohail, if you get a genuine replacement hose, it could cost around $600, so they are very expensive. Ask your mechanic to get Pirtek or someone similar to make up one for you and it will probably cost about half that.

Sohail, you're getting ripped off mate. Your 1st stop in my opinion would be a wreckers, or ask someone wrecking their soarer on here. If you don't want to go the second-hand route, then go to Pirtek as suggested. At that price, I hope it's the high pressure metal hose you're talking about, not just the feed hose from the reservoir....

I got all the hoses on the low pressure side of the system replaced for about $120 including labour. Midas did it. Is the high pressure hose really that dear?

My horizontal pipe dropped down and rubbed on the ground. All the fluid leaked out and the pump was screeching and steering was very heavy.

Luckily I found Mr Rack a couple of hundred meters away and they changed the pipe for $130.

I also overhauled the pump 2 weeks ago. Seal kit from Toyota was $48 and a bearing was $11. Not terribly hard to do. Should take a mechanic 2 hours or so. (just make sure to disconnect the battery so you don't blow the 150Amp fuse for the alternator like I did)
