Hi guys, at the moment where i live it is raining and my windows are fogging up so i turn the front demister on and after about five minutes of driving with it on i can start to smell a bad smokey smell coming through the vents. Now i'm not sure if its just because the demister is on or if its just a problem because of the water from the rain. When i lift the the bonnet up i cant smell where it's coming from exactly but im fair sure its from the front of the bay. All my liquid levels are fine so has any one got any ideas because i dont really want to drive it with this problem. Also the car was keyed 2 weeks ago and it didnt polish out and its going to cost $700 to paint it again so ive decided to get vinyls to cover it has anyone got any good suggestions?

The replacement cost of those buggers is staggering. Mine are rank and could seriously head towards the bin... how long are the filters expected to last?
If I don't need to buy them again for years I'll definitely lash out on some.

Not sure how long they last but after 20,000km in my TT they went grey on one side.
Before I installed them I spent hrs cleaning as much as I possibly could of the pipe work to insure there was nothing left in there that would potentially smell or make the filters dirty.
They were still working fine after that amount of time but how much longer they were going to last is anyones guess.

I washed my filters with some laundry powder. The more I washed, the more dirt and crap kept coming out. It was an almost endless battle to get as much out as I could.

Good idea John, I might chuck them in a bucket of Napisan for a while and see what happens.
When I bought the Soarer I washed them with sugar soap... I gave up after a while because I had the same thing happen as you did. It kept coming and coming... and I got pretty damn angry in the end!

I guess you're right. The main reason I washed them was because of the funky smell... it wasn't a smoggy/cigarette smell, since the car was imported in 1995 and has never had a cigarette lit inside it... but more of a wet towels left on the bathroom floor smell.
