Hey guys,
Well recently after I changed my air filter my soarer started sucking a heap of fuel. Just puttering around town is as low as 4-5km/L at some points. I reset the ecu cause I thought maybe it was just not use to that amount of air and wanted to run far to rich or something.
My first thought is possibly the spark plugs? I got the car with just over 100,000km's on it so i'm guessing they are still the ones from factory haha
Any thoughts? Gonna call neil on monday but its only sat so thought i'd ask on here.

Daniel the V8 AFM doesn't have the ceramic element and heater wire. The late model turbo does I think.
The early model V8's have a photo diode and mirror set up and it is super super sensitive to oil.
If the mirror gets dirty in the slightest way the reading will be completely wrong.
I don't think this is the problem though as the closed loop operation is regulated by the oxygen sensors and I have seen faulty AFM's ignored by the ECU when in closed loop.
I would start by checking the oxygen sensors to make sure they are oscillating.

Also I think I may have been way off with the spark plugs but could they have played any roll in it? Haven't been changed since I have had the car (~30,000km's) and I got it with 100,000 on it so they may have never been changed at all and giving off a poor spark thus poor combustion thus poor economy.

Dave ..pull the filter out have a close look at it?...look down the inlet trumpet(towards the front of the car) just in case you left something in front of filter..also its posable for a bag etc to get through the air scoop and onto the air trumpet....good luck

There is nothing down there and its still using more than the usual amount of fuel for just putting around, putting out a bit of visible gas on start ups at times as well, use to only be on cold mornings (could even be a bit of dew in the exhaust) but its happening during the day as well now.
Engine still sounds alright and there isn't any noticeable loss in power just seems to be running rich/not ignighting the fuel as well? Thoughts?

i currently have the same problem with white smoke at startup and it drinking fuel like crazy. i have been looking around and have had tips that there is a problem with the ECU. i don't know how accurate that is and have yet to bother to attempt to fix it as it seems out of my budget
