We just changed the oil and washed the engine and now the engine won't rev beyond 1500rpm without cutting out. Can anyone help?

well thats your problem right there. the correct way to wash a soarer engine is to submerge the whole car in water. preferably a natural spring.

It's actually best to drive off a boat ramp into salt water. Salt water is less conductive and the car would definitely rev to 1600 in this case.

Let it dry - and don't do it again!

Just turn the car upside down to let it drip drip drip out.

That's your problem there! Should've used a fire extinguisher not a fire hose. The extinguisher leaves a nice, bright white finish on the engine.

Yes John, Ive done this my V8 recently, gives it a good clean look, only temporary of course if you use a CO2 type...

Dan, you could possibly try wash your spark plugs and/or other vital electrical components with less water in future, especially at a high pressure!!!

The part that is wet and causing the drama would need the car turned upside down :-)

Thanks guys, so I've gotten water where it shouldn't be. Hopefully I haven't screwed something up. It still idles smoothly and revs up to 1500 smoothly but just cuts out like its not getting fuel.

I'd fire it up and let it idle for a while. Might help warm it up and dry it out.

Next time, use less pressure... the hoses at the car wash are more than sufficient when teamed with a bit of degreaser.

Daniel you really need to blow out the spark plug tubes ...just pull a lead off and blast the air down the tube replace the lead and move on to the next.

It's all good now. We let it dry and it's reving sweetly. By the way we just pulled all the cats off and cleaned them out. They were so clogged up with crap that I'm surprised the engine would even run.
