I've tried to find something about it but can't find anything exact so here goes...

I picked up the car today and have driven it nonstop till around now. Not sure if the noise was audible earlier but now when i rev the car, or drive it has a constant whining noise that gets louder as the revs get higher? Not sure if it's normal or not but it doesn't do it on idle, just when revs are applied.
Sorta sound like a quiet supercharger (i wish).

Not sure where exactly it's coming from but i'm pretty certain it's the drivers side?

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Cheers Sean

that's what i first thought after reading other posts, but it seems to have nothing to do with me steering or turning the wheel?
Where exactly is the power steering pump and where do i check the power steering fluid?

You can see the reservoir in this tutorial, and the pump is behind it next to the engine.

may be coming from there, if it was power steering, wouldn't the noise get worse when turning the wheel?
One more thing i've just noticed is every so often, there seems to be a noise that lasts only around 3-4secs, sound like something engaging then switching off. I think it is either the brakes or steering?
What could that be?

Usually the noise gets worse when turning. The alternator is just below the pump, so it could be that too.

The other noise is probably the brake accumulator if you have TRC.

i do have TRC so is that normal?

No noise when turning or at idle, only when revs are applied? What about the cam belt etc?
Does that ever whine?

can anyone tell me what the whining noise is everytime I turn the ingnition on? it goes once the engine has started, sound like the noise you would get from a fuel pump although the noise seems to be coming from the engine bay!

oh, come to think of it, the noise does continue after the car is started, seems to go when I select drive and release the hand brake.

Brake accumulator for TRC brake system. The nitrogen cylinder is probably in need of a recharge or replacement if it takes too long to stop pumping.
