My V8's been having some serious dramas overheating. It all started when i had the motor completely checked over and fixed up to get a roadworthy. I was driving home and after about ten minutes the motor overheated (hot water pouring and bubbling out of the overflow). Took it to the mechanics the next day and it turned out that the thermostat had no internals so they fitted a genuine one. Again same problem only this time it took about 15 minutes before the motor overheated. Took it back to the mechanics and had the radiator flushed. All seemed fine until my old man took it out for about an hour and the motor overheated again.
I've read on a thread here that a similar problem was fixed by having a new radiator fitted. Is this all I need to do and how much would I be looking at to get a new radiator?
Also I have Vertex front bar that doesn't have the plastic cover underneath to channel the air through the radiator, Could this be a problem?

Cool, Once the council finishes the roadworks out front of my place and I can get out of my driveway I'll take it down to the Radiator place to get it looked at. I'll keep you's posted

Turns out my radiator was 80% blocked up. What's amazing is that I could drive around for about thirty minutes before it would go over halfway on the heat gauge. Anyway, getting a new radiator fitted with a block flush for $1100.

Damn it!!! I don't really know much about how much things are worth as this is my first car so I just told the bloke to go ahead and do the job. Oh well, at least it's just my tax refund paying for the radiator.

Well at the end of the day the important thing is to get the cooling fixed and for you to be happy with the repair job.
Shame others didn't post about their prices first so you would have something to base this against.
If it's a new OEM factory radiator then perhaps it's okay but all the aftermarket stuff I have worked with has been around the $700NZ fitted which is abouy 550AUS.

I think the bloke said it was a Denso radiator which was a bit more expensive($650) than an aluminium radiator($500) but would be easier to repair in the future. $1100 was a worst case cost (any additional hoses or whatever they might find wrong with it) so I'll be finding out tomorrow when I pick it up.
As long as it doesn't overheat again I'll be happy.

Cool, I'm getting some coolant tomorrow now that I've got me car back but it's going to be drained again when I get a new water pump because according to the radiator bloke, the pump was dripping slightly under high pressure(the same pressure that causes the cap to blow off).
