Ok i have searched and could not find anything so maybe someone here can help.
I was starting her up yesterday with my right hand while i was changing cd's with my left hand. She clicked over about three times and i stoped turning cause i wasn't paying attention then in the same second i re turned the key to try and start it again but that was while it was still trying to start from the first time. She started, BUT there was a god awfull sound coming from the exhaust pipes, sounded very hollow. Meanwhile the engine sounded good. I gave it a bit of gas and it just coughed and rattled the exhaust. Reversed onto the street which took quite a bit of effort and went for a drive down the street. It felt very wrong so i turned around (i got about 500 meters) and as i was heading back home i flattend it and got a max speed of 67 in fourth gear AND used about 2 litres of fuel. I am pretty sure its missing but i have no idea why, the spark plugs were changed 4000kms ago spark leads about 10000klms. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Also this now happens every time i start it im hoping its an easy fix under $1000.

I have a working coil that i just removed from my car if you need it. (In my case the problem was the lead). Say $25 posted
Pull the lead off the right coil and try starting her up. If it runs exactly the same then it's probably the issue. If it wont start at all it's probably the other coil that's stuffed.

Apparently, on one bank, 2 cylinders wont fire and 2 will, same on the other side too.
So you get 2 cylinders pumping out unburned fuel which sits all over the cat matrix which gets ignited by the other 2 cylinders hot exhaust gases... then after a little bit of time the cats will glow red and start 'melting', which is seen by white smoke coming out the exhausts.
This happened to my last V8 soarer. I knew straight away what it was... sounded like a horrible WRX too. Haha

Ok i un-conected the lower one on the right and the car didn't start, so i re-conected it and unplugged the top one and the car starts but konks out straight away. Is this whats supposed to be happening ?

Sounds like the top coil is dead to me, but it could also be a lead but this is less likely considering you replaced them a while back.
Let me know if you want my old one.
If you want new, then speak to Neil Griffiths from Rush Imports. (rushimports.com.au) he'll post one out to you. They can be hard to get from Repco, Sprint etc as they usually don't have them in stock.

Can be a little pesky = Can be real bitch!
Not sure if it's the heat or what, but even when I eventually got it out, the little screws that attach it to the bracket were so tight that I stripped the heads and ended up having to drill out 3 of the 4 to get it off the bracket. It was shortly after this that the ignition lead going to the coil snapped off in my hand and I realised I didn't even need to replace it in the first place! - Hence mine being up for grabs.

Took the supposed faulty coil pack into toyota and they did a resistance test on it and it came out ok, took it home and tried it in the car and it still is playing up but will not work without it. Im just going to leave it in my garage untill i can take it to get a service at my mechanic because i dont want to go buying parts that i dont need. Thanks for every ones help ill let u know how it goes in the next week or so.

Ive had the same issue, the coil tested fine but I did a test with the engine running and the voltage form the coil was well below what it should have been, so I spose the coil was partially stuffed, not a full open circuit. Good to hear you sorted it..
