Ok people just a couple of simple questions
1.Why do some soarers have a fluid cooler for the power steering fluid as well as the fan fluid.??
2.At what interval should the fluids be changed and where is the best place to undo/drain the systems ??

Not sure about item 1 but if you did a search on here you should be able to find most of the fluid questions.

Personally I do oil and filter every 5k. Coolant and brake fluid every couple of years.

Diff, trans and power steer every 50k or so.

All should be quite obvious to understand where to drain from and refill.

Matt.

Im with Matt, Engine oil and filter every 5000Km without fail.

See the link below for instructions on changing the oil.

1) Because they are 2 separate systems.
2) If you mean the PS and Fan oil then maybe every 10 or 15 years. To replace the oil stick an upsidedown 2.0L coke bottle (with the bottom cut off) to the reservoir (ensure there are no leaks) and fill the bottle with fluid. Then disconnect the return line from the reservoir and put it in a bucket (you will need to cap this connection point. Then start the car. The bucket will fill with old fluid and the pump will fill from the coke bottle with new fluid. Turn the car off when the bottle is empty. Connect the system back up and check for leaks and ensure correct fluid level.

Andrew thanks for the tip there..Is 2 litres of tranny fluid enough ?? the power steering cooler looks like it would hold about that amount while the Cooling fan cooler is smaller and would probally be ok..The caps state use "Dex 2 only"Is this the better stuff or should I swap over to Type 4 fluid ??

You need about 14 Liters to do a transmission flush.

and about 8-10 I recall for the Power steering to flush the system.

Go for the Toyota stuff T4, Personally I use Elf T4 IIIG which is a substitute, works perfectly.

Mike..thanks for that,I didn't think that 2 litres would have been enough for the power steering but wasn't sure about the cooling fan system.I'll do it with the coke bottle and keep doing it until I'm happy with the fluid coming out of the return line.

8-10L for a power steering flush? Are you guys serious? Has the V8 got a rather different rack? When I did it on the TT it took less than 3L to clean it out, there is bugger all fluid in the system!

For the power steer and hydro fan fluids, change them when they are dirty (have a look in the resivoir). The should be a nice clear red colour, if they look like a dirty brown, then its time for a flush!

ps, dex3 is fine for those 2 systems, don't need to worry about type4 unless its for the tranny.

I use Toyota Type 4 fluid ATM for my tranny, but when I get my shift kit do I still use that or different oil??

Thanks, Sean.

For the steering, 4L is fine.
