Just a quick question for all after replacing the radiator (1uz engine)Should the bleed bolt be opened when filling the system with new fluid or opened after with the engine running and/or the system presurized ??
Ther reason I ask is is I've been told a few methods of filling
1.as per the soarer site which says to fill through the bleed valve then top off via the top tank.
2.open the bleed (bolt)and remove the top hose to the radiator and fill through it (hose to the top tank)replace bolt when fluid bubbles over and continue filling til the cold line on the expansion tank is reached..
The second method means that the top radiator tank still has air in it as far as I can see or is amount normal ??

Just do 1.

The expansion tank is actually a bubble tank - to catch any remaining air and allow you to see the level. It then has a pressure overflow hose running from it, that goes nowhere in particular, just dumps down the side of the bubble tank.

Thanks Peter...it all sounded a bit confusing with bleed bolts etc etc..and trying to pour the "Treacle" (toyota fluid)in through the small bolt hole..Ok I'll go number 1 and probally disconnect the level senser to stop the constant "Ding Dong" of fluid low level while topping it up..engine running.

Engine off. You don't want the coolant pumping out the filler hole.
