My Lexus SC400/Soarer V8 does have a slight tapping noise from the metal shims, But I thought it was getting worse, when I could hear a loud "Ticking" Sound getting more and more noticeable while I was driving, Now I have discovered the sound must be an exhaust manifold leak coming from the passenger side of my engine, more noticeable when revved or driving under load. Anybody else had this on their V8 Soarer? Also what does a not too expensive after market system cost, and what sort of power gains do they make?

Just a note, you could have kept all these extra posts on the same thing in one post, not 4...

My suggestion is to take your Soarer to the mechanic recommended in the OTHER post by Peter and go from there - I'm sure they can sort your Soarer out.

To answer your questions though, it could be an exhaust leak, the gaskets can fail.

An after market exhaust well, to do anything on the cheap side you would be wasting your time, you could take off the rear mufflers and have straight pipe put in place but that doesn't do much, everything else after that will cost a lot more.

For the full setup where you will get a proper gain in power and terrific sound to boot you would need new high flow, headers, cats, pipe and mufflers - so budget around $1500-2000 for that and expect around 10-20rwkw gain.

Neil at Rush Imports (
www.rushimports.com.au) for the Extractors
2 high flow cats
"X" pipe
2 hotdogs
2 mufflers
2.25" piping (its only a 4ltr)

$1000 + fitting

http://www.planetsoarer.com/V8Exhaust/V8Exhaust.htm

seeing that you have the exhaust leak

1st - extractors and cats (slight loss of torque below 4000 rpm, gain above that)

2nd - the rest of the exhaust

3rd - piggyback computer to make the best of the exhaust and future modifications.

safc (fuel only tuning)
haltech, moristech, greddy blue / ultimate etc(fuel and timing)
