i beleive shims only come in a couple of diameters. I am going to adjust mine and a friend has some shims. I want to know if what he has is the correct diam.

Hmmm chances are your friends shims will all be the wrong thickness.
Every shim in the 1UZ has a different thickness.
Just buy them straight from Toyota - do it once, do it right!
