Hey guys, I have a V8 Soarer, It could be my imagination, But it seems sometimes I hit the throttle, My car "Feels" quicker than other times, like it goes harder one time than another, I know this sounds weird, but it could all be in my mind, but out of curiousity has anyone else had the same experience?

Mate I have the same issue. I changes shift solenoids because it started in 2nd gear sometimes. I still have the same feeling even though it starts in 1st gear each time. I help out at my mechanics and he drove the car an said the throttle body on the car is larger for better response up the rev range as opposed to a smaller throttle body for better takeoff. Don't know how true this is but if I take off with 3/4 throttle the car takes off faster than full throttle. Luxury cars aren't designed for hard take off but have power while in regular drive speed like bmw which don't take off fast but once your going have more ba*ls than your every day commodore or camry.

Yep, can take off in 2nd some of the time. I will be putting a manual into mine eventually, no more dullness!

Yup its the same with me. The whole full throttle 3/4 throttle is annoying as hell though.

Is this a side effect of having a BFI ??

Does everyone with weak takeoff have BFI? I bought my car with a cutout air box. Never driven it as it was original so maybe I will try getting a new air box and see how I go. Anyone got one I can just use for testing?

More than anything, I believe this feel of it being slower, is you just getting used to it. Go drive gutless 1.6 for a day or two, then hop back in the soarer and it will feel grunty down low again!

Mine has done this before and after BFI, but it has solenoid issues too.

I think its more to do with old ecu's and as Alex said gearbox solenoids. BFI is unlikely to affect it take off adversely.

so much so that it is a ridiculous notion Aside from take-off, ECU retraining will affect responsiveness from time to time. It always reflects the progression of use in your last 30-40 starts. |

So there's your answer. 30-40 burnouts and your takeoff will be as good as you are going to get.

i know we shouldn't give our cars when they are cold BUT i recon mine has more power when its cold. is this maybe because the coolant temp sendor is telling the computer to give more fuel because its cold???

Well the running mix is rather rich anyway, so I doubt it. Most likely air intake temp I reckon Jamie.

When cold, timing is also advanced, hence more power. There was a thread about fitting a resistor to the ECU temp sensor to fool it. I did this mod (with a switch) and it worked well for me. I since removed it as part of tidying up the wiring.

What kind of difference to performance did it make Peter? Is it like running 100 octane?

yeah i notice this as well, its much more responsive in the morning. if anyone has a simple switch mod id like to see it.

Hard to quantify, but eg at 40kph on a damp road, slamming the throttle to the floor, it would jump back to first and with the resistor switched in the wheels would spin, but not with it out. This was repeatable whenever I liked (and had a damp road).

Have you boxed your BFI in properly? My V8 is quicker in the morning because the engine's cold and it's sucking in cold air. As the car heats up, the engine gets hot and then it's sucking in hot air (mixed with cold), hence the lack in power. That's my assumption anyway, i'm gonna get a top plate and see if anything changes.

Just another thought, and correct me if i'm wrong, if your having fuel pump issues you will have better performance with a full tank. I've just gone through my 2nd pump (after replacing the first one with a 2nd hand unit) so a Bosch 040 is on the menu.
