| Hi All, I changed the tensioner on the soarer yesterday, after finishing that I noticed that the harmonic balancer had play in it. Today i find the damn thing has moved back about 5 mm and the belt is slipping straight off * refer photo. What do i need to fix it by the weekend.

As far as I know, it's a matter of replacing the balancer, but it's not easy to get off as the bolt (or nut?) that holds it on is done up extremely tight.

any ideas what the balancer is gonna cost, undoing the nut wont be an issue, i have a rattle gun that would undo dumptruck wheel nuts

I hope not.... Jovica, I think i still have the bag that the balancer came in, but it's at home... I finish work at 4pm. If you can wait I might be able to get it for you this afternoon. |

You'll shred many a fan belt if you run it like that for too long.

I cracked mine by using an extended breaker bar on the nut that hit the concrete floor and used the starter motor to turn the motor over, worked first time (the rattle gun didn't). You obviously want to disable the ignition if connected so it doesn't try and start.

Hey Jo, how did you end up going with it? I've got a couple of questions for you: Did you notice any noise or vibration before it went? Any loss of power? Have you shredded your belt yet?

Ashley, Tai Johnsen was more than kind enough to post me his old one which was in rather good nick. It went on no probs. No didnt shred belt but it smelt rather bad from the friction as the balancer sat back approx 5 mm and the belt wanted otherwise. There was no loss of power but a there was a hell of a squeal as the belt rubbed on various parts of the engine if the throttle was applied in a manly fashion (which is how ive driven my car for the last 4 yrs). There was however a engine electrical warning that would pop up every now and then ( im gathering it was the alternator screaming for help) It has ceased to come up since the "new" balancer was put on. Oh and to take off the old balancer was a piece of cake no need to remove anything but the belt. One 22mm socket and breaker bar attached , sat it on a piece of wood on the concrete and cranked - came off 2nd crank (pulled the ecu fuse) . To return it i just used a old belt wound it around the balancer over the idler pulley and pulled - then had a helper tighten the bolt voila the car purrs.

I only ask cause I think mine has a bit of a wobble in it. So I might have to do mine soon. I'll keep an eye on it though and buy a new one if I have to. Sounds like a lot of work so I might just have to get someone to do it for me. So warning as of yet. I'm getting noise, but it could just be my noisy Yokohama's wearing... Hard to tell when I'm driving.

Its not a lot of work, 40 minutes to swap it over and thats with a break. If you suspect it order it from toyota ASAP cause it takes 15 days to come in and Peter Kittle is cheaper than CMI by 9 dollars. Part Number is 13407-50030 PS the noise only comes on if you stab the throttle cause you are straining the rubber dampner
