Hey all
I've got v8 soarer that I've had a 2 1/4" twin system on for a while now and I'm fed up with the loudness and drone at low revs when I'm driving slowly even with the windows up.
Its a cat back mandrel bent with x pipe and 2 semi strait through mufflers on the back.
Should I get 2 resonators(hotdogs) put in or bigger better quality mufflers put in as they are only supercat ones?
It also doesn't sound deep like a v8 enough.
Edit: at a guess how much would this be to get it modified.

I run 2x hot dogs and 2x Lukey Stainless High Flows (Practically Straight through), because I didn't want the Drone. It's very quiet when crawling, but when you give it some it barks quite nicely.
I don't have the X pipe though, you lose a couple of HP without it apparently, but I quite like the Bark it gives without it.
Cost, couldn't be much just 2x hot dogs, cut a section out, weld in the dogs. I'm sure a few vics will be along to recommend exhaust shops. The bloke I took mine to was very good and was able to work out a system that suited what I wanted.

mine is from the cats back (factory cats ) and it's 2" with 2 hotdogs and 2 cannons, no drone at all and almost as quiet as stock, flatout it sounds like a V8 super car but quiet, i love it, but i believe i need new cats as i reckon mine are finnished, and im told new metal cats will make it a bit louder..

Check to see if the exhaust pipe hangers are reasonably free. If they are under tension, then drone will transmit into the floor and into the cabin.
If the exhaust hangs free, then the noise should all be at the rear of the car, and be reduced heaps when the windows are shut.
Some of the dodgy exhaust shops don't bother about this when making the system, then cheerfully sell you more hot dogs, resonators, whatever, and of course more labour $$.

Update: Today I got installed for $250 2 louvred hot dog resonators and its heaps better. No more drone when driving slowly and still loud when driving hard. It sounds about half as loud now. Still about twice as loud as my mates magna that he paid $340 for a vrx sports muffler.
The car feels like a proper car, much nicer to drive and strangely more responsive.
Also because it has resonators the note has improved and sounds more v8 like.
I don't have to be scared of cops pulling me over and defecting me any more, I hope.

I run a backyard job:
Yes I am for real Yes that is what's on my car right now No I did not make it, came like that
BUT
I get comments all the time on how awesome the exhaust sounds funny enough lol. It's a bit too big tho cause it pops and gurgles on the backoff a bit too much haha
