Its not that bad, just very time consuming - nothing too tricky about it. Having said that I don't want to do a 1UZ-FE again. 2JZ-GE is a lot easier.
Take the covers off and do a visual inspection. If it looks at all doubtful, do it. Even though the 1UZ is non-interference, its not worth the risk of it breaking and damaging the timing gear.

My 91 has 130,000 on it but the belt still looks new. I have had the car for the last 8 years and only put 40,000 on it. Have no idea how many real kms on it or if the belt has been changed, but visually there are no signs of cracking anywhere so I will be leaving it there for a while yet.

Cam Belt and Water pump change is a piece of pie.
A couple of years ago I was quite 'scared' of jobs like that but upon doing it to my Soarer I was staggered at how easy it was, did it all with no problems at all.
Though I do work quite well with my hands so that helped, I seem to have skills that not many people at my age have.

I will be telling you from you changing the timing belt is not too complex (basic tools) just takes a long time to do (Under 2days). But since I have done it before hopefully it will take less then 2days. I did one just over 2years ago when it was 94000km but know the car is approx 180000km I better start collecting the parts for the next major (belt, seals, water pump, bearings etc.
For a mechanic to do it they would want to charge 2days labour which will cost more then the parts alone. I was quoted from toyota $1.5k for a $70 timing belt. But other mechanics would ask easily over $1K for a timing belt especally on a V8.

i am currently replacing my water pump and timing belt. i'm pretty sure the timing belt has been done some time in the last 5 years, but my water pump seized and the timing belt did burnouts on the seized pully lol. i was dreading doing this but once you start to pull the front of the motor down it really is quite simple. timing belt cost me 85 bucks from toyota and the water pump was 160. didn't bother doing bearings or any of that because they seemed pretty good and it really wouldn't bother me if i had to pull it apart again to replace them.
