Hey guys, i mounted my number plate today as per the photos, then suddenly realised, this is where the stock air box gets most of its air? So would this affect the performance? It feels slightly less responsive but i'm probably paranoid (the number plate is mounted just above the gap in the front bumper)

Hi Rory, if you have not modified the stock air box then this will block air. The stock airbox takes air in from under the headlight and has a very small opening, so unless you do a BFI this would not do you any favours.

OK thanks mate, where does a BFI get its air from? Im hoping to do one but i thought it consists of taking out the snorkel from under the head light and cutting the box a bit short? Would still get air from there wouldn't it?

Will do, does anyone know a good website that could help me make one thats really easy to follow for people not too familiar with mechanics or soarers?

I don't think there would be any measurable difference in having the numberplate mounted differently. Just looks quirky.
Remember, its not a Ferrari that does 200+ mph, Just a road going Soarer thats already fairly sleek with a 0.31Cd, limited to 112mph.
Might be a good idea to pay more attention to things like stuffed shocks, bushes and old fluids, things that actually count at the end of the day to the vehicles overall performance.

I agree about the fluids etc, but i was more wondering about the air intake as apposed to the Cd of the car, as where i mounted the plate is where the stock box gets most of its air

Ah yep, well you would probably be best in getting one of those 'stick on' sticker numberplate's that go under the Griffin Badge.(Original number plate location)
Ive seen them before and they look good enough, would eliminate any air restrictions to the air box.
Pretty sure they are legal?
Other wise I would put you plate on the other side, and patch up the holes...

Yeah that's the thing, i don't mind putting it on the other side but then i'll have 2 big holes in my recently resprayed body Don't know how i'd patch them up to look perfect..

what you could do is mount it still using the holes but putting the screws through the bottom of the number plate. get it? or just take it off and see if it makes it better, if it doesn't dont worry about it.
