Our V8 Soarer makes a tapping noise but only when hot, on a cold start it is very quiet. I originally thought it was the shims but that would be worse when cold.
I have recently changed the oil to 10w40 Mobile Semi synthetic but made no difference.
Any thoughts? |

Carbon canister maybe, mine ticks when the engine is warm. |

It it quite loud and sounds like a noisy lifter but totally quiet when engine is cold. |

what about the exhaust manifold gasket leaking. some times the manifold warps under heat creating that ticking noise you hear and when its cold it returns back to normal so when the engine is cold you dont hear it. try a new gasket, if this doesnt work you might have to get the manifold depending which one machined. |

Yep I have the same issue. Thought it was the shims but when its cold nothing. Once it warms up it ticks like a Datsun 120Y...very annoying. |

I am sure its not the carbon canister but I will disconnect it and try anyway. |

Loose or cracked exhaust manifold . When cold, no leaks, once warm and warped and crack opens, Hello ticking . |

the worst will be needing to get the manifold machined, they tend to warp more than crack |

Had a quick look yesterday and using a bit of hose to listen to the ticking.
It does sound like the exhaust is leaking and no noise coming from the Cam covers. |

I have the same problem, quiet when cold but after a while its loud.
Last month a put a set of headers on. The problem is still there... |

Haha yea my BMW does it hell bad after i flog it down the FWY and get home, ticks for a good 10 minutes |
