Hey guys, have noticed recently(last couple of days), that my motor isn't warming up properly. the temp gauge generally sits somewhere between cold and middle, whereas in the past it has ALWAYS sat bang on center and hasn't moved an inch, even in gridlocked traffic. also, it smells like it's running quite rich and the engine rev's at around 1100-1200rpm when i put it in both N and P, and about 800-900rpm when i D. Has anybody had a similar problem? I've searched for any similar problems in the archives but haven't been able to find any.

Hey guys, I have had the exact same problem with my '91 v8. It has also tied in with me having a problem with a large amount of white smoke coming out of the exhausts(imagine Hiroshima on a soarer sized scale) when I start the car, this problem continues until the car is between middle and cold. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this and if a simple change of thermostat would help ?
I'm a bit of rookie so thought I would ask the experts and I don't fancy paying near $150 for Toyota just to have a quick look.
I doubt if the thermostat is causing the white smoke, the thermo is a 10 minute job to replace, if the Temp gauge is in the middle that's fairly normal.

The only time the car isnt smoking is when I have driven the car for around 20 minutes and it eventually stops. I live in Perth and it's not overly cold and it has smoked when its been a warm day in winter.
