Remember my thread about killing my cats? The problem went away but it's back again. Sounds like i'm draging a chain at this stage.


Anyway I wanna have a go at getting the cats of myself and was wondering how big a job it is.

If changing a tyre is a 1 and pulling an engine + Transmission out is a 10

where would removing a cat be?

I have a jack and car stands.

I just wanna take them off, get the crap out of them and bolt them back on.

jol, a 2. if you have the car jacked up for easy access 4 bolts at each end of the cat (under drivers feet)

I just have a really bad fear of a car falling on me.. this happen about 0.0002 seconds after a had a torana nearly take my head off after falling off 2 stands and a jack :-(

How long does it take roughly? I.E. How many slabs worth of time?

BTW gettign the cats of is not a 2 out of 10. i'd put it as a 4 out of ten unless you have a hydrolic lift.

Also, no one mentioned that these bolts are prolly starting to rust .. and the bolts at the back are near impossible to get to.

Its actually quite hard.

Need a 3/8 socket set for it.

And to get right under there.

yeh i had a look at the bolts a couple of months back. most of the bolts holding the exhaust are rusty. annoying.

Anyway I solved my problem

My car sounded like I was dragging a chain behind it, it also sounded like the exhaust was banging against someting.

Popped the exhaust of the cat tap it and a cricket ball size of cat (honey comb) came out. Car is lovely quiet not :-)

what was your major problem doing this job Jol? the trying to get under the car or the fact that the bolt heads were rusted?
