so i did an oil change on the car and decided to record the engine noise after doing so..can anyone tell me if this noise is ment to be normal or if somethings fked?
oh btw the old engine oil was black! and looked wayy thicker than the 10w40 i used to refill. i drove it round the block a couple of times and there definatly seems to be less resistance.

yeh i put in a new filter. the old filter got wrecked when i was taking it off. was on too tight. it seems to be the belt i think..cant be too sure as the sound isnt really specific to one area

I think Adam is on the make , how many K's has it done and to me sounds like the cam buckets need re-shimming . That's why they may have put thicker oil in it , so you couldn't hear the tapping noise .

Ali , first thing i would do is remove serpentine belt so you can discount pump, alternator, aircon bearings plus the two top pulley bearings...you will get a bong on start up but thats ok.

How did you go?
I haven't listened to your audio but an easy way to make an engine stethoscope is to use a large screwdriver (anything solid really) and place the pointy end of it on the suspected source of the noise (not a moving part obviously). Be sure that you're not going to get anything caught in any rotating parts and put your ear to the end of the handle. Voila, you're listening to the heartbeat of your engine.
