My 1992 V8 dash temp gauge sits on perfectly half way all the time, except once every 2-3 months it will go one notch over half for a few minutes then drop back down to half, this has happened 3 times now always under normal driving conditions and not on hot days. Each time I have filled the overflow bottle with 500-800ml coolant and the issue goes away for a while. Is this acceptable for an older car?

Before I get my system pressure tested, I was wondering if my radiator cap was wrong. It is CNC brand with 13 90 stamped on it. The radiator was blocked when I bought the car 18 months ago, at the time I had it removed and cleaned and the whole system flushed and a new thermostat and cap fitted.

Car is otherwise OK, have never turned on the aircon, the car is babied only driven 50-100km a week, and is regularly serviced with no visible leaks, water, oil or otherwise.
