Hi guys,
Usually my car revs on 700 in park and neutral and 600 when in stationary drive. (or 700 with the aircon on)
Lately, sometimes when im stationary in drive it drops to 500 instead of 600 and with the aircon on it sits on 600 instead of 700.
Might not be a huge difference but it sounds like a WRX inside the cabin and feels like its about to stall.
The car is in good condition. No mods to the engine except for a BFI and I've never had mechanical problems.
I should mention I have an exhaust leak around the extractors area, it used to be bad until a bolt was tightened, but its still there. Could this be the reason due to lack of back pressure or anything like that? (Im still a newb, so go easy on me )

I would say the exhaust leak would definitely be hurting it but also check your air filter cause if thats shot it won't help either (air in is just as important as air out) either of those is compromised and it will suffocate.

exhuast leak will definitely confuse things, but check around the manifold for any hoses that may have been knocked off, there are a heap of them - and leaks after the MAF will confuse the mixture.
also might be worth cleaning your throttle body. i did this myself on the weekend. very easy, there are instructions on the web. but basically, take the intake off at the throttle body and with the car off, hold the throttle open and spray a heap of carby cleaner in there. then let it sit a bit and give it another squirt, things should start to loosen up, in particular off the back of the butterfly and the mating surfaces. then finally, with the car revving at about 2500, spray a heap more into the intake. then take a vacc line off the manifold and spray the rest of a can in there. the inside of your intake manifold should be squeeky clean and free of carbon now! helps with idle probs a lot. }

How much for a mechanic to do that? I don't have time as uni just started and im taking it in for its 100k service so might as well add it to the list.

took me about 15 mins, and a can of throttle body/carburettor cleaner - which was about 18 bucks. so i'd say a mechanic would charge you about 30 bucks? its not hard at all, it' literally one 10mm bolt, and loosen a few clamps to get the intake off the throttle body.
and if i can work a 50hr week and still find time to do it, you can definitely do it while you're at uni!!! haha, when i did uni i had 12 contact hours a week, i had TOO much spare time.

if you do use throttle body cleaner do it before you replace your spark plugs as that stuff will ruin your plugs. if you not replacing them i would advise waiting till your ready to or see if you can get some old ones to put in whilst you do it that stuff is good but it's not great for spark plugs
