Hey guys, iv got a 91 v8, had it for 6 months now and getting sick of it, iv got a 3 1/2 inch exhaust on it and cold air intake, its good fun and sounds great but im slowly getting bored. iv looked at chargers for it, and they dont really interest me that much. I have started looking at Nitrous setups tho, and was thinking a wet 50 shot setup or a single fogger nozzle. my only worry is, how much can the motor withstand?

cheers

i did some research on this about 6 months ago, and did not find a lot of info at all on the net. in fact, i couldnt find a single person who had done it, only people who had theories on it.

we know as a rule that the motor is strong and very overengineered - so that is a positive.

but, like anything NOS is a bit of a gamble to get it right - refills are expensive, and i guess the overriding issue is that it is illegal to have a setup plumbed in on the street.

but let us know what you find out!

My mate with his MX5 V8 has a proper NOS kit setup.

Running 100hp kit. Goes well.

Search YouTube I'm sure there is a vid of a stockish v8 soarer running 13's on the bottle

and i believe mods are listed or contact the owner for info

I reckon done correctly you could use a 100 shot regulary. But go to someone who knows their sheet

I have done a bit of research on this.

It looks like the fuel system in the Soarer's can handle approximately another 100hp or so

A wet kit is essential as the ability for the stock ECU to compensate with enough fuel for the extra air is dodgy and would likely lead to a lean out and engine damage.

Something like this would be a good starting point and another 100 odd horsepower would be noticeable.

http://www.zex.com/Pages/130/Wet%208%20Cylinder.aspx at $650USD

There are a ton of other add on components that would be of use, bottle warmer, purge valves, remote valve openers, progressive controllers etc etc.

Matt.

so long as you can let go a huge stream of NOS from the purge valve at the lights before you race for pink slips.....:-P

thanks heaps boys, iv put the order thru for nitrous express. $875 for the bottle, fogger nossle, and purge valve. should be a little fun when i get the car off the road to do the work. going to try a 75 wet shot first, and then go up form there

aiden: not too sure why i dont like the chargers, just a bit more challenging playing with the nitrous, but i might get bored with it too and put one on later haha :-)

Chris, you might need headers. Probably not the best idea for the engine to be constricted whilst burning nos.

Yeah thats not at all a bad idea, in fact a really good idea if your running NOS.

I would suggest to get headers first otherwise your just over stressing your motor for what is an expensive mod you use once in a blue moon.

Up to you though.

But, do the headers first!
