meh, I just spoke to a guy who told me I should put one in, I'm not even mechanically minded. I was just telling him sometimes the car feels sluggish when I put the petal down when I change lanes and he suggested a torque converter.
Some days it goes quick others it takes a second or more for the gear to kick down.

He's probably suggesting you REPLACE your EXISTING torque converter. Chances are the fluid is wrong and its stuffed. In one celsior it had been filled by a mechanic with dex3 and when it came out it came out black.
Use toyota for it. Pull out your transmission dipstick and if it says dx3 then you can use it, if it says toyota type (??) then use that.
If you do that and flush it through and its still slugging THEN MAYBE you might want to consider pulling your torque converter out and replacing it. But you're looking at some pretty costly mechanical repairs at that point at a dealer. Hence why i suggest throwing 80 of liquid at it first.

Hence start at the cheap easy fix and slowly find more symptoms as you go through the process of cheapest to dearest. I'd still bet money on it being the fluid not being toyota type 4(?) and coming out black.
