On Friday I was giving the car a good clean with the air gun getting rid of dust and wiping parts of the engine bay down (note I didn't go hosing the engine down) - then checked all the fuses in the kick panel and engine bay area just to chceck the condition of fuses (the way I did it was pull one fuse out check it and put it back in) - drove that night to the pub and drove back home no dramas or any issues at all. - Saturday morning started the car to go to work, it cranked and started then choked and the engine stopped running. - went and bought a super sized battery - checked all terminals at the battery and the alternator end (mint) - check the fuses again (perfect) - tried to start the car it cranked and sounds like it was about to start but it doesn't start. - chromed the exhaust pipe no smell of fuel vapours (according to my crapy nose) Now my questions are: - is my fuel pump stuff if so how do I check - is the fuel filter stuffed how likely is this to happen given the fact I fill the car up with mobil 98 octane - would it have to do with igntion coil packs? - would it me the starter motor relay? If so where is it located? (which I highly doubt because it cranks over and want to start but no magic) - or should I turn the key to acc and let a current flow through the car and unplug the ecu, dome fuse to try and reset the ecu system. (that sounds like a bad idea but who knows)
Or am I missing something compleatly here
By the way the power steering is perfect no leaks and the alternator is in top shape has been tested with a load on it and if the car didn't crank then the alternator would have been shot.
It's not the timing belt, becuase I was able to drive the car the night before with out any problems and has been recently changed
What I can't get my head around is it worked fine the night before and the next morning it decied to play games. If anyone could pitch in their thoughts that would be highly aprechiated.
My biggest concern would be the fuses I pulled out might have triggered something ( engine was off when the fuses were being checked)
open the diagnostics port, grab something metal (leg from a electric component (Led, capacitor, whatever, just one leg) and bridge it between FP and +B, then turn on the ignition, then either head to the boot or back to the motor, @ the boot you should be able to hear the pump whining, @ the motor you should hear a 'whooshing' noise, almost like there is air inside the rail, if you can hear the noises at either side, fuel pump is working, try and start her up...if she runs, i'd put money on the fuel pump ecu being rooted....if it doesnt start, you know its not a fuel issue.
Not sure whether the soarer system primes on ign or not....but by bridging the FP/+B your making a 12v connection directly to the pump....
Could be the coil packs, but you have to work systematically when it comes to issues, easiest is always fuel.....check the coil pack clips are plugged in fully and the leads are also plugged in fully.
No chance of it being the starter solenoid, it wouldnt crank if it was.
Fuel filter could be blocked, fuel type is irrelevant at the end of the day since we dont know wats in the tanks at the servos....replacing the fuel filter is relatively easy, but focus more on the more likely suspects!! (fuel pump/coil packs)
you can try resetting the ecu (pull the fuses) but dont have the key in the ignition....that wont achieve anything....
Fuel filter........hard to say...if none of the above works you can change it, but i doubt its the problem!
i hate electrical issues! my aristo leaks water into the cabin, where the ecu is (dunno where from, stripped the car down at one point) and a few connectors are getting wet causing the fuel pump to be on 12v whenever the ignition is on.....if i open the door, the fuel pump cuts out!!! talk about trippy...found 2 connectors soaked in water at one point, blew them out with compressed air...still nothing....headf#$k of a problem!!

Thankyou very much soti I'll give that a try once a bit of day light starts happening. Hopefully it's the fuel pump while at the same time I'm hoping it's not something too hard or expensive to fix.

Fuel pump ecu is located on the lefthand side of the car, covered by the passenger armrest - the bit of plastic or rubber covering the seatbelt (hope that makes sense) If you bridge FP & B in diagnostics port in the engine bay, you should bypass it.
If it does turn out to be the fuel pump ecu, PM me - I have a spare.

Cheers James I actually figured it out gave the car a once over with the muti meter so all the ecu's fuese ect are working fine.
Turns out it was the fuel pump pulled it out and hooked it up to a battery no pump action from it what so ever, then I'm sitting there swearing black and blue that Toyota or Lexus isn't open. Guy across the road has a new land cruiser with a v8, then it hit me maybe use the cruiser fuel pump and yep sure did cost me $125 at repco came with the harness so slight modification needed to me made but it runs and I'm a happy chap.
