Hi,
I have a 1992 UZZ31. I have had recurring problems with missing and rough idle. Two years ago I replaced the original ignition leads with TopGun leads. These leads improved the cars idle when first installed but progressively the miss came back. The failure of these leads progressed to the point where it was possible to see sparks arcing out of them during daylight.
I replace the TopGun leads with Bosch ones a month ago. When first installed the idle was perfect but progressively the miss has returned. In the dark there is an ever growing amount of corona visible on the leads and the odd small spark arcing out at a couple of places. Particularly on the passenger side coil lead where it goes through the timing belt / distributor cover.
Has anybody got any suggestions on this problem. Have I just bought two sets of dodgy leads? Is something making the ignition voltage higher that it should be? Should I be seeing corona at night or is it indicative of another problem?

The plugs are NGK or Denso ones (I can't remember which) and are 2 years old. When I pushed the leads onto the plugs I pushed until they clipped on and then gave them a gentle tug to make sure they were attached. I will double check today to make sure they are connected properly.

I think its the after market leads. I have heard in the past its good to use the original ones which go for about 450-600 a pop new. After market ones don't last as long as original Toyota ones (i.e. 15 years or so)

I've checked the leads and it appears they are much lower resistance than the original toyota leads.
The results suggest none of the conductors are broken suggesting there may be another cause to my problem.
I've put my measurements in red on the diagram.
Could the coils be being overdriven increasing the voltage? I've replaced two coils in the last two years. One of the replacements is a champion one and the other is an original toyota one.
Some of the guides and brackets that hold the leads when they cross the front of the engine are damaged on mine, the leads are kept separated but not in as neat a manner as they were originally.
