Hey guys, looking for some help on a problem im having.

This morning I tried the start the car but it wouldn’t turn over, it cranked fine though. I drove the car last night and all was well, no problems whatsoever.

Well what I've tried so far to find the problem is;

Fuel ecu bypass. Can hear fuel pump working in boot and whooshing in engine bay. So that’s fine
Now im not out of fuel and when I try to crank it you get a fuel smell from the engine bay (im guessing fuel flooding the cylinders?), and the battery is fine.
I reset the ECU.
Spark test, no spark from ignition coils. So ignition system seems the culprit.

So, what’s next? I’m guessing the Ignitors next? but how would you test that aside from swapping in another set. Or what would be the next step in my search?

Currently running a diagnostic, still EFI -- so just waiting.

So im in a pickle, anyone have any tips and tricks? before I throw the towel in and take it to a shop.

Igniters are getting power, and no change to EFI-- since I reset the ecu

Now im thinking the cabling after the igniters, or the igniters themselves.

measure the 2 coils. one is the to the right of the thermostat, the other on the LHS above the ac compressor.

The primary (measured between the 2 pins that go into the plug) should read close to 0 ohms.

The secondary, from either of the primary pins to the HT output should read ~12k ohms

Both coil assys are in good shape, 12k / 0k on both.

Coils are now getting power through my test light, thought not going to leads, what I'll do now is take the distributors off, and have a look, though I dont see them being the cause

The problem is, since theres two of everything, if one of these items was not working, wouldnt the engine still fire, but just run very badly?

ED:And since the car was working fine last night, what would brake due to water/heat/etc overnight? Argg

EDAgain: Power to the coil, though it stops before the leads? on both coils. Very strange.

12v comes from the ig sw to one side of the coil. the other side of the coil goes to the igniters.

If you have 12v at the coil, both igniters would need to be faulty to stop the car starting.

i dont know anything about igniters, except they are ain the engine compartment on the LHS towards the windscreen. (maybe they have a fuse)

Well I got it started, though I had the serp belt etc off so I didn’t let it run for long. So I put it back together, moving a few wires around etc, and now it wont start again, how annoying. When its light tomorrow I'll get back at it, See if I need to fix anything in the wiring as lots of the clips / wires are broken/frayed and not in the best shape, lets hope its that..

Adam; I don’t think its the starter as that would cause hard starting conditions regularly, where it usually starts without any trouble and very fast, like it did before I put it back together, well that’s my understanding anyway.

Tom; Yea I had a look at the igniters, gave them a clean with electrical spray, not sure what else to do with them, though they are giving out a current.

Good thing though, Ive taken tomorrow off work so I can get this fixed, if you look hard enough theres always a positive!
