Hi all, My car recently starts to rev up and down at idle from 1500rpm to 2000rpm. after some search, a conclusion was drawn that this issue may be due to idle speed control valve, tps or ECU. I measured the resistance of my ISCV, its within the spec, but when I tested it according to soarer manual's instruction, the valve head did not extend or retract. I connected middle two pins with 12v and sequentially grounding s1-s2-s3-s4-s1 and S4-s3-s2-s1-s4(refer to the manual). at S1 and S3 pins, the solenoid tried to move but failed to extend the valve head. I hence pulled it apart and greased the bearings.
When plug back into the intake manifold, the problem was not solved, so I played around with TPS. At one point, the cyclic rev went away, but was idling around 1400rpm. In an attempt to bring down the idle rev, the cyclic rev issue came back and it doesnt go away.
So I checked the resistance on the TPS, found out when at idle, its 168ohms, factory spec is 5 ohms, but with feeler gauges in, they are to spec.
Tomorrow I am going to replace the bearings of my ISCV but I would like to know if any one knows what are correct voltages coming from ECU to ISCV plug to signal it to close and open.

I've just recently started having the problem. The car will rev past 2000rpm two or three times before settling back down again. I've noticed it doesn't do it when the engine is already warmed up and having been used, but definitely every time on a cold start.
Either my ISCV needs adjusting / cleaning, or my recent trial of a fuel additive/octane booster has thrown my ECU out of whack now that I'm not using it any more.
I'm taking the car for a service in a week or two, so will report back with the fix. I'm hoping I don't need a new ECU.

The service didn't reveal the reason for this. I have also reset the ECU twice, removed the ISCV and cleaned the bearings, cleaned & lubricated the spindle/shaft. Re-fitted - no improvement.
I am left with the ECU being at fault. Will physically detaching and removing the ECU be of any use? Will this do anything more than pulling the fuses does?
This is doing my nut in. My Soarer is sick and I can't find out what the reason is..

In my case, the ecu was buggered, sourced a second hand ecu for 150dollars in nz, and got it fixed straight away. Some of the capacitors are buggered and I couldnt find correct capacitors to replace them from JayCar. your best bet would be to replace it with an aftermarket stand alone unit, you might not be as lucky as I am, as most of these ecu s are the same age as your current one. It is a big risk that you might spend money on another faulty one

i checked the spring for spring lol and i put some antisieze compound in the center just some tips oh and i used electrical contact cleaner on the inside of the black part and it helped

Finally got the ECU out last night and have sent off to Damian. I opened it up just to see if my untrained eye could see anything obviously wrong. I'll post them here for others to refer to in future.

I have a '95 V8 and the ISCV is different, it is held together with 2 pins and not the 3 screws, can these have new bearings put in them and if so how do you get it apart? you can see one of the 'pins' on top and there is another opposite.

you need to see under side of those capacitors, most of them were burst and leaking on my original ecu.they dont burst on top, need to check underneath. Damian from A1 turbo? I got my ECU from him, good guy, knows heaps about these v8s. best of luck
