just been looking at options for removing the 180kmp/h speed limit on my uzz31 soarer and found this http://shop.importdriver.com.au/store/products/item206.inetstore anyone tried these and does anyone know if they're any good ? pro's and cons. have thought about piggy backs and full stand alone ecu but for a car with no mechanical mods apart from bfi I thought it was a bit of over kill to go to aftermarket ecu especially for the cost of a decent one when all I want to achieve is to remove the speed limiter ? thoughts ideas and suggestions please people ?

I've been looking for MINES or Harry L ECU's and even thinking about if American Sc400 one would work. With the one in your link I'd wanna know if the shift is smooth or if you have to take your foot off the gas a bit for it to change like some of the other ECU's.

yeah I emailed the company last night just waiting for a reply I would definitely buy a standalone ecu like a mines or lemmins or sard etc if I could get 1 for less than $600 NZ and plug and play. I unfortunately missed out on a sard ECu on trademe the other day went for 400 was keen as to buy but the guy selling it wouldn answer my questions and someone else hit buy now

I couldn't tell you that. Many these days just plug into the onboard diagnostics port. They would most likely come with a universal loom which an auto electrician could install.

I'll add that while I wouldn't mind an Apexi NEO or late model Black RSM, I'll get an emanage ultimate installed at a later point, which will sort out the speed cut. They're useful as it displays alot of the cars vital functions on a useful little screen

Dan, since you live here in NZ I might be able to hook you up with a American ECU. I am installing a Megasquirt ECU into mine and I have my factory ECU and a SC400 ECU so it would'nt hit the speed cut on the track but now I have the Megasquirt I wont have the speed cut any way. Will let you know what happens but just waiting for time off work so I can finish installing it.
Steve the only reason for getting the Megasquirt was because it came up cheap, the SC400 ECU would have been fine and I have done 3 track days with it now.

hey James I could be keen what sort of speed were you able to achieve ? were there any issues running the sc400 ecu at all ? what sort of coin you want for it feel free to email me danny_blomfield@hotmail.com

I do not know of a top speed as the dash wont read past 180kph but when I had my navman in the car it said 194kph but then I had to slow down for a corner one time. The gearbox stays in 3rd until 180kph then hooks 4th. PM replied.

I've never heard of it, but that's not to say it's no good. Your problem would be finding someone who can tune it and who knows what they're doing with your engine.
You would be better off getting a Megasquirt for 300 dollars less and it comes with the cables and instructions on how to install it and comes with software to tune it and has a base map pre loaded plus you will get better performance.

thinking I probably gonna go with this I have spoke to jacky at Jtune in Auckland and he guarantees 100% money back that this product http://www.jtune.info/products/d1-spec/
will do the job and for 160 including freight and specific installation instructions for the v8 soarer I think its pretty good value for money. considering the only engine mods I have currently is BFI don't think it justifies the need or expense of a stand alone ecu but absolutely will look at a mega squirt done the track if I get round to doing some serious mods (finances allowing).

Do you have experience with the megasquirt James?
Not yet but soon will do.
The guy selling those ECU's builds them as Megasquirt's come in bits and you need to construct them. His name is Jared and I must have emailed him about 100 times now asking about every thing and how he did what to hook it all up. He has been great so far and very helpful but installing the thing my self has taken a bit of time plus I was unprepared and under resourced but all I need to do now is run a wire off the battery to the cabin and my car in theory should start then it's just make sure the timing is correct and make a custom intake and re-do my exhaust then off to the dyno we go!

Interesting James.
Did you get the updated unit with idle speed control support?
Are you running an air intake temp sensor? What map sensor did you run? Why do you need a custom intake?
Have you got rpm, aircon etc also working?
The Spitronic ecu looks interesting, supports grouped injection which is better than batch and seems to be on a par price wise with idle control compared to the Megasquirt except it needs a new timing ring installed.

I hav'nt updated the idle speed control yet as I am waiting to hear from Jared on some ideas that we think could work.
No air intake temp sensor, I am making a custom air intake to flow more air put simply. It will have the factory air box but then it will have 3 inch pipe from the back of the air box to the throttle as the Megasquirt does not use a AFM.
I dont have my car running yet plus I have been told my air con compressor is stuffed so I am not too worried about that at this stage.
All I am really after is some thing that gives me more power than what I currently have and will help drop the times at the track. I am not too worried about some creature comforts as when you get a track hack and road car togeather you end up having to make some sacrifices.
Also I have found that alot of dyno tuners don't want to know about you if the ECU is uncommon but Auckland Performance Tuning have put their hand up to say they will give it a crack.
I will let you guys know how I get on with things further down the track.
