Engine is hard to start hot or cold.
during start up system check is stalls.
If you rev it up (3500rpm etc) sometimes it helps but not all the time. then once its started it runs fine then after 5km or so a code comes up on the dash in Japanese which i worked out to be a fuel fault code. I took it to a workshop with a snap on scanner and its coming up as a knock sensor .. do any of you guys have any idea of this problem ? I am also thinking fuel ECU or ECU or even IAC . I have read up on this issue but just need to confirm that a knock sensor will cause this as i dont want to pull it all apart for nothing. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea about the knock sensor. But how about you quickly try a fuel ecu bypass and see if that helps, or maybe your fuel filter may be clogged.

Could be the fuel ECU. Dont these have 2 settings? I'm guessing when you rev it over 3500 it kicks in the high mode, (which might be fine) but in the low mode its stuffed??
Just a guess. But Dan B suggestion is a must do first, try the fuel ecu bypass. As it costs nothing to do and not much time either.

thanks for the reply guys...
first the fault code is " Engine Electrical System" if that helps

i will do fuel ecu by pass and go from there
I doubt its the filter because it still performs well once started

Same thing's happening to me.
Also, I have an ever so slight PS leak.
Every month i gotta fill it up a lil.
No leaks under car - must be getting sucked into the engine.

Issues with my car:
rev loop when in park and neutral randomly (IACV).
speaker whine (alternator?)
lack of power when warm, and car won't restart sometimes after driving - at any temp.
- My fuel ecu has been bypassed already.

our issue could be the main ECU on the way out from what i've read on these forums.

I also had an engine electrical/alternator not charging error come up once or twice in the last few months also.

- This high/low mode thing seems interesting, can someone point me to a thread with some information on it please :-)

How about you just deal with the IACV now that it's been mentioned so many times, then take it from there.

I think this rev issue is due to a vac leak in the power steering system or anywhere in the Soarer in general.

(if it starts with the foot down - that's a telltale sign of a vac leak)

I have narrowed 'my' issue down.

In park and neutral car loops revs.
Car is sometimes hard to start.
Sometimes with the foot down it starts well.

Losing a small amount of fluid monthly.
Idle air up valve on the power steering is causing a vac leak.

the rev thing is due to a vac leak - very similar to a bad IACV.

Anyone with this issue, check the power steering system for leaks.

P.s. If it's not the power steering system, it could be a vac leak elsewhere.

Going to be fixed this weekend!
Will keep threads updated.
