Hey guys and girls,
I have looked at all the similar threads with similar topics, but they still don't match what is happening on my car.
I took my car for a drive the other day into the back streets of the country because i'm sick of driving it like a nanna around town, so i fairly floored it a few times getting up to the speed limiter, after that i then went to some gravel tracks and started going in circles.
After this day of 'fun' i started the car up the next day and went for another drive. first thing i noticed was that the whining noise when using the low gears was considerably louder. The huge thing i noticed was the sound when i turn the steering wheel. It sounds like (don't laugh) a goat, and i can feel this in my steering wheel as well (kind of a light vibration feel). It's a horrible sound. A goat has got into my engine bay haha
My guess is it may be the driving belt as the sound sounds like it is coming from that area.

haha sorry, I can't help laughing - I've had a few beers and your post read quite funny to me. I think it's how you phrased it. I'm sure it's no laughing matter though.
Back on topic, your car probably didn't like being pushed to the speed limiter then going around gravel tracks in circles. Not something the luxury v8 soarer was designed for. *Can't condone this behavior, I've done this stuff before too. You may have damaged something with your power steering, and you say that using the gears is louder. Give your car a good service - get the gearbox oil changed and see if you still get a whining noise. Also, you may want to bleed the power steering, see if that makes any difference. But I'm no mechanic so what I say will probably be rubbish.

Sounds like it could be the power steering pump low on fluid or in the process of failing.

Okay thanks guys!
Will give it a go soon but can't at the moment as i have to study for exams that i've got this week. plus it's raining.
just took it for a drive then and its mainly when i turn the wheel, when i have the window down it's very loud.
And james, no worries about laughing mate haha- it's the aussie way, and i know i shouldn't of floored the car because of it's age and other factors, but my previous car was a proton gen 2. so i'm sure you can see why i wanted too haha

Haha I know what you mean. The first car I ever had was a Toyota Camry, gutless but fun. Give the above things a shot and let us know how you go. If you were in Vic I'd come and help you to the best of my abilities.

only 2 things give the symptoms your getting airation / cavatation of the pump due to pumping air and oil. Either low level or the vanes in the pump starting to fail are the 2 causes. 1 of my cars a while back would have no power assistance at all after a bit of a hard flog but would settle down after 5 minutes or so (dead pump). Playing up the next day sounds more like a low level situation to me . And I'm sorry but I have to do it !!!! The best way to stop a whining noise in the car is to leave the missus at home

yer i don't have a missus.
just a question with the tutorial on the flush of power steering. do i really need 4L of fluid? i've got a litre of the stuff. And another question, i have just been to auto one trying to find a hose and their 16mm size hose is huge. so what size hose's should i go for?
thanks and sorry for all the questions (i'm not much of a mechanic-if you hadn't noticed already)
