Hey everyone, my surge tank next to radiator seems to have leaked, there is a nasty white foam around the seal, not the top part with the cap, but where the upper bit of plastic meets the lower. The level seems to of gone down a bit just enough that it does leak out anymore, I believe it has also resulted in the heater not pumping hot air when not moving.

Is this common? Can you fix the seal with anything? Or should I be looking for a new surge tank?

Hey Michael,

Yes this is a common issue. Normally a crack forms from where the level sensor screws in.

Either way there have been varied results form repair attempts.

I suggest to save the ongoing headache get a new one from Toyota. From memory their about $350 - $380.

Or you might get lucky and find a good second hand one which might last a few years or weeks

If you get a new one, get one for a 97 V8 as they don't have the sensor hole. Just unplug the sensor.
