Hi wondering if anyone can help with advice?
We got caught in a shocking downpour this afternoon in Manly, the car then cut out. It'd restart fine but not idle. After a poke around in passenger footwell the NRMA guy fella said the downpour had most likely got the fuel pump ECU module (?) wet, and it needed resetting or failing that replacing. Either way he said the car wasn't getting fuel once started.
Does anyone know if this issue can be solved by resetting it, if so how I go about doing so?
Or if it needs replacing, does anyone have a known good one I can buy?
Thanks very much indeed. A bit stuck!
Mat

go to the diagnostic connector and short FP (fuel pump) to B+ (12v) If the car now runs, the fuel pump ECU is the problem. You can run th ecar with this in place.

Ok thanks guys - was 10 min in traffic sudden downpour but nothing more involved. That's really helpful, cheers - not sure how to short the required points or where the plug is so will take this thread to a garage

Having had a search of the forum this looks like something I should have a go at myself first - where's the diagnostic plug? And is a paperclip sufficient, I guess just pop it across those two ports and try to start the car?

Does the labelling vary from car to car or should it be standard? If I'm looking in the right place, mine wasn't labelled as expected - no FP or B+, all the letters differed from the other shots of diagnostic plugs I've seen on the forum.
Is this the right place (excuse the shocking photo, couldn't get the phone to focus - but no FP or B+)?

Right - got it - quick (silly) question - do I need to disconnect the battery before I can stick the paperclip in to bridge the two? Am I going to get a shock?!

No mate, no need to disconnect the battery. You won't get a shock. Just make sure the car is turned off when you do so. Also from my experience, don't remove the paper clip after the test, as I was stupid enough to realise, it gets HOT. Derr

Maybe it´s time to do the 12v Fuel ECU mod. Search for that. In club lexus is a DIY with pictures to do this. I did it a month ago with very good results.

Thanks Martin - bridging Fp & B+ didn't help (not sure how deep you have to push them but tried three different size paper clips to no avail). I'd say I'm not skilled enough to have a go at that safely, so will try and find someone locally who knows these cars.
Can anyone recommend a mechanic in Surry Hills or near Central sydney? Preferably someone who knows these cars/imports as NRMA guy didn't seem to have a clue
Or is there someone on here who'd help me for bountiful beer money?

Hey there
I have this exact problem with my V8. After asking around and doing some empirical testing I am pretty sure it is the computer in mine getting wet and freaking out. Have stopped washing her so much and have avoided rain if possible and it has not shorted out for a good months. If I get around to changing the computer I will do some more testing and start a new thread on the issue.
