hey guys

Soarer - 1992 V8 GT

theres a little red light that is appearing intermittently on the right side of my dash. its the catalytic converter warning light. Im taking it that this light means they are getting too hot? The exhaust is fully custom and I think it was custom built before I got it. Is there any way that the sensor could be faulty on the cats?
and if the cats need replacing, is it safe to drive with them in this way?

thanks!

Both of mine melted at separate times and started to rattle around partially blocking the exhaust, it effected performance but did not cause the light to come on. Faulty wiring or over fuelling maybe? I had my Soarer exhaust work done at Carline mufflers in West Perth, Peter he knows his stuff.

Thanks Stephen. I did speak to Peter. He advised it could be anything right down to spark plugs. I guess I will have to try eliminate as many problems first as I can.
He also said it could be the fuel. It has started to warn me at the same time as I have been using that fancy 98 fuel. I have no idea how better fuel could cause it but anyway.

Thanks again!

If it’s running ok and not using unusually large amounts of fuel then it’s probably the sensor or wiring. 98 Octane is recommended for the V8's.

The cat light can also be the check engine light. Have you ran diagnostics and checked for codes?

The cat light also comes on when the PS pump leaks fluid into the alternator - requiring both to be repaired. Get that looked at right away.

When my PS leaked into the alternator (seriously that's almost as silly as Ford putting the coil under the fuel pump) I had the warning come up on the dash of my UZZ31 before the cat light came on. I would check your PS pump ASAP and through a multimeter over your battery terminals and check the voltage there.
