I have a weird vibration at 60-70km/h. Its a bit of pulsating vibration. Any ideas?

Harmonic balancer perhaps?

If it's an auto it will be the torque converter engaging at 65kph, but if it's a bad vibration, check tyres, bearings etc.

Get to the speed it is happening and set the cruise control.

Switch OD in and out which will change engine revs etc but maintain the same speed, and see if the vibration changes.

Yes = issues related to engine/mounts.

No = Issues could be anything but the engine.

It's a start.

I had a bad vibration a wile back and it was the rubber donut between the diff and the tailshaft. Check this first as you can see it. Mine was torn.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I have a very similar issue with mine at the moment:

**EDIT**
Actually scratch that.
Vibration happens 59km-68km regardless of gear. Definite feels like something kicking in as when the speed drops below 59km it disappears. Possibly happening over 68km but it's hard to tell because we have such roads here.

I can feel it in the steering wheel as well. It also seems intermittent, sometimes worse sometimes not but always there at 60kmph.

I was thinking Diff, Tailshaft or Gearbox, but now I'm thinking torque converter. So whats the best course of action? Take it up to MV auto's and let them have a look?

What about you Christian?

Torque converter speed varies with engine speed, so it won't be that.

So possibly wheels or tail shaft?
engine mount needs doing...

Pretty much from the gearbox back, or possibly the front wheels.

They are the only thing not engine speed related.

Not sure, but maybe gearbox mounts could be a factor.

I'm getting the same; kind of a pulsing vibration between 50 and 60km/h. About to inspect rubbers on tailshaft.

Also while cruising at 110km/h on the freeway in overdrive, occasionally I get a sudden missfire. Only happens when going up a hill. I installed new spark plugs, coilpacks, spark leads and its still happening. Could it be an issue with the auto?

Ross,

I'll let you know how I go, Im going to be moving some wheels around, replacing the trans mount (I KNOW this needs to be done) and I'll inspect the rubbers while I'm under there. Failing that I'll just replace the transmission with another one. I plan on taking it in for a wheel alignment and balance as well.

The misfire, if all the stuff has been replaced. I'd say Fuel Pump or Fuel Pump ECU or Main ECU

Thanks Ashley, keep me posted, I'll put my findings in here too.
I have changed wheels which made no difference. Had wheel alignment checked, etc.

In relation to the missfire, I installed a new fuel filter and new fuel pump only last week which made no difference. I also swapped ECU which too had no effect.

Next set is Main ECU, igniters, coils or leads... :-(
All easy to test though.

Forgot to mention, I've replaced fuel pump ecu and I meant main ECU when I said I swapped ECU.

Ignitors is the only thing I haven't tried but I'm inclined to think it's an issue with the auto as it only happens in overdrive under load.
