hey everyone. last night i discoved why mates shouldn't touch your car. period. 4 months ago i changed my diff because i stripped the gear off the right hand side of the old one. Yesterday i discovered that i was missing 3 of the 6 bolts on the left hand side that connect the axle to the diff. and the other 3 were about to fall off, and i only discovered this only because one of the brackets was hitting on the diff as it was spinning. so as I sh!t my self as to what could of happened, i went to 2 of my local bolt shops to get a few more bolts to replace the missing ones, and neither of them stocked them, so I then went to toyota and their $5.50 per bolt, and they didnt keep them in stock either, so i ordered them from toyota and i won't see them until thursday. i think i got out of this light compared to what could of happened if i dropped an axle, has anyone else had anything like this happen?

Sadly yes, been there done that. My diff seized so I found a TT LSD and installed that with my brother, a apprentice mechanic. Take off from a set of traffic lights and bang, clunk, clunk. Oh my left half shaft has disconnected form the diff, I wonder why? Because when I left my brother to finish installing the diff as I had to go to work, he didn't tighten the bolts properly or use any loc-tight on the bolts.

One can't be to careful. I always do my own work as methodically as possible, hate others helping.

COmmon for those bolts to loosen unless using a light form of loc-tite on them .

Never hurst to recheck 1 week later after doing anything bolt-on/off either .

I don't even let other people put petrol in my car, after one attendant took two big chips of paint out while presumably gesticulating wildly with the nozzle. Wish I had noticed it at the time :-(

Chris and Allan... please don't say " could of" or "would of". It is supposed to be could HAVE or would HAVE, hence the word 'could've' or 'would've'.. not could'f. I see it creeping in everywhere, so i'm taking a stand:-)

Exactly this reason I never let anyone fill my tank.

Lousy gas station attendants.
