Hey Everyone,

Long time, no see.
;-p

Picked up
this from Vic yesterday. Not a bad car despite the fact it's missing. Luckily enough I have all the spares from the crashed one.

Just trying to track down the issue. It's only running on 4, tried all the usual suspects. Next step is breaking out the multimeter and seeing where the spark is getting to.

Anyway, just looking for any input on what else might cause this. Is it possible the ECU could have crapped itself and dropped spark to the passenger coil?

Any and all help is appreciated.

what are the usual suspects you've tried, just so we don't double up? :-)

coil, igniters, dizzys, rotors, leads...
twas a long day.

I replaced the coils & igniters, tested the leads (as best I could) visually inspected dizzy/rotor arms.

I remember how much I fking hate working Soarers...

I'll be swapping out the ECU during the week if the weather gets better, putting my old leads in as well. Cold as all hell out there now

what about the position sensors?

is it the 4 cylinders from the same coil that are not firing?

Sensors "look" ok, ie: wiring isn't frayed.
But I've got them on the list to swap out with my old ones.

i'll be able to tell which ones aren't firing up when I get my testing equipment.

Leads will all be swapped out for fun anyway.

If it's all 4 on the passenger side, that will be curious, as each coil feeds 2 cylinders per side.

Don't think its all 4 on one side. Wouldn't run at all if it was? There would be no balance.

Yeah ECU from my old Soarer will be swapped over tomorrow or the weekend. Been reading through forums last night and found some similar issues that were ECU related.

Also could explain why I can get any codes "EFI --" thing. Fingers crossed!

PLMS doesn't do ECU repairs.
BUT I swapped out the ECU this morning and "EFI --" has changed to "EFI OK" so that's a small victory and something I know is now working right. (even if it's just diagnostics)

Time to go buy a new multimeter make sure everything has now got spark. Plugs could very well be shagged now, don't know how long it's been running on 4.

I am also suspect of the cat. Curiously i found these things written on the ECU:

All getting power +12v until the battery died. :-(

So I guess it's dizzy leads or plugs?

not surprised, I repaired embedded system boards for a living many years ago, repairing them only delays failure, replacing all the cap's helps but once the electrolyte leaks onto the board its basically game over.

Luckily I have a spare then I suppose.
Plugs & Leads will be done tomorrow, hopefully they will now be the culprit.

Very possible. But it should still be sparking. I know where spark is getting to now, just gotta figure out why it isn't making it the rest of the way.

How far along do you have spark ? Ecu outputs ? Coil ? Igniter ?

Done a comp check just to make sure even when you do get spark , that side isnt completely fubar'd ?
