G'day

So.... it seems it's hard to find 90915-20004 filters made in Japan.. do Toyota still make them?

My local keeps referring me to using 90915-YZZD3 which use a different internal filter and are made in Thailand now, but I want the Japanese type just for peace of mind.

Sigh, did some reading of the forum and found a member stating

"The 90915-20004 has been discontinued since mid-December 2003 and replaced with the Thailand-made 90915-YZZD3. All Toyota and Lexus V8s will be assigned this new filter. It has a slightly thinner filter element. The alternative to this is the TRD filter part# 00602-90915-007. The TRD filter is the essentially the same as the old 20004"

So perhaps TRD filter part# 00602-90915-007 is the way to go.... yet from what I have found they seem to be just a basic toyota filter with a slightly different paper filter element - not the fancy element the old 20004 used..... in some cases they are just generic rebranded K&N filters!

Hmmm!

I have used all sorts of different filters as I do a change almost every 5000 kms and have not noticed any gain or difference.

Let me know if you are keen on the TRD item as I know Nick at TRD north shore so he can do trade price, just brought the quick shifter off him for my R154 as it is.

Yeah there won't really be any noticeable difference. I'm just being purposely fussy - every part I am using for my conversion has been made in the USA, UK, Japan or Germany.

No expense spared!

Yeah, I gave up on the Toyota filters as the new ones are no better than a Ryco I can get from Supercheap for less than $10. Now I buy Fram XTENDEDGUARD - XG3614 - seem to be built like a tank.

These can still be found, you just need to find somewhere that still has a few on the shelves.

Do they use rubber in the non return valve mechanism? Just wondering as it has a shelf life of 5 or 6 years before it perishes.

Anyone used a Ryco Z131a oil filter on the V8? They are a full size filter and do look to be in contact with some rubber piping when installed, but wondered if that would be a problem?

I've read elsewhere on the site that they are OK when fitted to the Celsior/LS400 1UZFE

Doesn't help you guys much, but there's a listing on UK eBay - a box of 10 90915-2004 filters for 65 pounds.

I was able to buy a couple from my local (UK) Lexus dealer a while back. Don't know if they are still available from Lexus though.
