Hey Guys My engine has been ticking ever since i got the soarer about 2 years ago, so i finally decided to fix those shims, i've been told by Cihan that ticking may even rob me of some KW since at high rpm knock sensor might mistake that sound as a knock. Geting mechanic to do it is just too pricey (plus i want to learn something) Anyway based on few guides it seemed like a pretty straight forward job. take cam covers out, measure the clearance using filler gauge and replace shims that are out of spec. They way i understand i will need : Toyota SST tool Micrometer Feeler gauge Cam Cover gasket Air compressor (to get the shims out) And bunch of shims Is there anything else?
Has anyone done it them selfes? and ran into some problems or found some short cuts? Also do Toyota stock the shims or they have to be shipped from japan?
